Default Symptoms of a bad kickdown switch.....

After reading the other kickdown switch thread, I am wondering what are the symptoms of a bad kickdown switch?

Having your car stuck in first think'n ya blew the tranny after really getting on it hard. Limped for a mile ..."Ding"... Reached down and unjammed it. Back in drive.

Also no kickdown from 3 to 2 at lower Hwy. speeds when throttle depressed to floor.

An easy check. Turn key to Acc posit. Depress switch by hand. Listen for click in tranny. If no click then solenoid or switch may be bad. Can check the switch with a continuity tester on each terminal & depress the switch & look for light or listen for tone depending on tester. No signal = bad switch.

I have been 'round the horn with this one for a while.

I have a good switch & detent but can not get kickdown above 55-60.

Someone else can straighten me out if I am wrong, but I think that rear gears have a lot to do with when you can get kickdown on the Hwy. I have a car with stock 2.56 rear & one with stock 3.42. The stock 2.56 will kickdown at speeds up to around 70 MPH & take you to 85 before hitting third. The 3.42 car will only kickdown below 60 & take you up around 80 or so.

Mule - Hah! been there. Had the car towed for a $20 repair long ago.

I have no switch, what's up with that?

Is it supposed to be under the gas pedal?

Sorry found the answer in the other thread.......
