Default RAM engine question

I have a '70 YZ code motor - H219
#12 heads - H089 (both)
Intake 9799068 - H079
Exhuast Manifolds were to said to be original - cant get numbers yet.

So all appears to say RAM III. However, the block stamp is 9799915. The 4 has been removed and a 5 stamped. Given the heads and intake numbers would this be a RA III or RA IV?

It's a RA III.

All IV's have 4 bolt mains and forged pistons... Pretty sure all RA3s had cast pistons. 69 RA3s have 2 bolt mains...

The Ram Air III and IV motor blocks for 1970 all had 4 bolt main caps. The casting number on the RAIII was 9799914. On the RAIV they simply ground off the last digit (4) and stamped in a 5. I have seen a number of RAIII blocks with the 9799915 part number. The internals are determined by the two letter engine code rather than the casting number on the blocks. A WS or YZ is a RAIII and WW or XP is a RAIV.

Uncle,I believe what you say is mostly true but the 914 blocks had 2 bolt mains and the 915's had 4 bolt mains. Thats the only difference in them. ram III's had cast pistons and iv's had forged. All YS and WT motors are 2 bolt 914's also.

Uncle skunk is correct.
I have a WS engine from a 70 Judge that has the 4 ground off and a 5 stamped on it.
It had cast pistons. And the 068 cam.
J029 date code on block.

What about 68 071 WS blocks? 2 bolt or 4? I know the 2506 would be 4bolt.

Not in this weather. We just had over a foot of snow this past week. Winter and salt are not friends of Muscle cars!

You would think a skunk would be easy to spot in all that snow

I've got a #15 WS block, orig. & unstamped. Uncle Judge is correct on these. Watch out on the road for the skunks, as there is alot of smelly creatures out there.
I believe raivking has seen an early 2 bolt WS, who would stamp a 2 bolt with WS? Maybe the early blocks were like the 69 RAIII 2 bolts. He's been around alot of Pontiacs parts, so he'd spot a fake!
