Slash, your welcome...indeed some good info in there. yup black paint was special order for 72.

NOW, onto that 72 HO: A decent car. But you know, if you were wanting a #1 car price, you'd think you'd at least clean up the car....a little! Dash bezel has been out of the car...it has a luxury lemans bezel in there now. Aftermarket gauges mounted underneath the dash, chrome buttons on the radio, Hood insert bars not painted black...Headliner looks like needing replaced. Undercarriage not that clean, but I don't mind...means it gets driven, I could go on...BUT if you want the 38K, it BETTER be clean... AND Correct! I think the 38K is a little high for a #1 car...but it is close to the value of a 455HO 72 car should be in #1 condition in my opinion. It has the correct engine, BUT it's been jacked with. Not a hard fix to make it look "stock" but seeing that stuff mounted on the firewall is not in line with a #1 car and the price.

I think 38K would be a good price for a #1 car numbers match 72 455HO car. Not for this car though. I'd price it in the low 20K just by the pictures posted on the car. .......
Remember......Pictures don't lie, but they don't tell the whole truth!

Be interesting to watch and see what this pulls, since I have another one of the 310....in better condition than this car
Pat

I guess it's worth some $$ if George DeLorean rebuilt the 455 HO in it. Back in the 60s & 70s, George was well-respected for his work at Leader.
But on the other hand, if GD is still doing rebuilds, then I'd think it wouldn't be worth much until George retires. (Unless he has...).

Slash:
Awesome, awesone Goat! Nice score, man!

The very reason I own a '72 GTO is because my best friend got a new '72 Revere Silver Goat as a graduation gift and we cruised in that car night after night and spent our lunch money on gas.($.25 p/gal.)

When he arrived at my house one night to show me his new '73 red 'Vette I almost beat him into the ground.
So, I swore I'd own a '72 someday.

btw: He had the Pewter...stay with the pewter!!!

Photos: before I bought the car-- the owner painted it a nice '69 crystal turq. and the after is a month after applying cardinal red....

Question

This thread has renewed my appreciation for the '72 GTO.
Many people say the '72 was "not a real Goat" because of the lower compression numbers, but my '72 goes just fine thanks!

With the split exhaust and fender extractor, the car had a few styling cues that were taken from the Trans Am.

In the fall of 1971, I was 15 and I remember thinking to myself: "This car is the final word in Detroit styling. Who could ever top the lines and styling of this gorgeous A-body?!"

Look at what Detroit has come out with since... can anyone name a car that looked better than the 70-72 GM A-bodies?

I can't...

The newer Firebirds and Camaros looked nice, but they seemed too "cookie cutter." Have you tried to get in and out of them? Not for the older guys!

The Monte Carlo SS is cool, but FWD????

Maybe 2nd Gen F-bodies were just as nice, as long as you ignore the '74 Camaro!

Wanted to cast my vote for the pewter interior. Love to see things you don't see. I would think just dashes could do the dash to look right.

Correct!

It's been fairly well confirmed and documented that all 1972 GTO's with a build date on or after January 1, 1972 received the 120 MPH speedo. This change was made to accomodate the government mandated seat belt warning lamp, along with the brake system warning lamp.
Just checked, mine has the 120 MPH speedo - 12C build date.
