front coil spring install
Help! I am in immediate need of help. I must move my 66 GTO resto project as soon as possible. Parents sold property. I need to get the front coil spirngs installed so I can get frame back under the car and attach. (springs were new, when I purchased the project from the previous owner and when I removed them for the frame resto) The spring ends are of a different wrap. One end seems flatter than the other. What I mean is that where the spring ends it is closer to the previous coil than on the opposing end. I do not know where the springs were purchased. They are new. Should one end vs. the other be on top or bottom. PLEASE HELP

If all you're doing is getting the car so you can roll it around, instead of trying to install the springs could you instead cut some pieces of 2x4 and stick them in the spring pockets to hold the car up?

You have progressive-rate springs. Whether the close coils are on the top or the bottom does not matter.

Thank you for the reply. I will proceed. Stuart...Because the chasis is about done(detailed, all new suspension bushings, ball joints tie-rods etc) I cannot do the 2X4 thought. I'll have to post a pic. or 2 in the next 2 weeks. Frame was blasted, 2 coates epoxy prime, 2 coats chasis black, new SS brake/fuel lines, all mounting bolts re-plated, front backing plates plated, all new brake hardware, I could go on. The Mrs. is ready to kill me. I have to sleep with one eye open. But... This goat frame is looking good. Thanks to both of you for the replies. Joe |
