Anyone have any clue as to the correct fasteners to hold the 71/72 GTO Ram Air Hood Pan to the underside of the hood? It seems that they were a #10 x 1/4 inch long??? How many fasteners were utilized? And while we are at it, were the heads of the fasteners painted?

Thanks!
Dan

Dan:

According to the 1971 GTO assembly manual, it takes 33! fasteners to hold the ram air panel to the underside of the hood. No fastener details are there other than a very blurry part number - might be 9422601?

Hope this helps some,
Lloyd

Lloyd, the part number did the trick. It is listed as a "# 10-16 x 1/2 screw-hexagon washer head drilling & tapping." Interestingly, GM still stocks this part. Thanks for the p/n lead!

You-da-man!

Dan:

I didn't even think about calling the dealer on these - thanks because I'll be needing 'em for my '72 also. HOWEVER, when I called my GM dealer to order 'em, the part number has changed to 9440166, and they list for $4.00 EACH!!! Maybe I'll try to locate something close that's not quite so high priced!

Later,
Lloyd

Anything old (no 8mm socket size) in that dimension, that is black phosphate finished should work. I need some as well, & will start watching...

According to my parts guy, the part number is still valid and carried at a Pontiac, Michigan GM warehouse. Lloyd, I think that your dealer is smoking some of that Texas wacky-tobaccy. I should know for sure today as the parts will be delivered. And I sure hope that they are not $4 each since I ordered 40. Yikes. I'll let yall know what I find out (today or tomorrow).

Dan:

Yes!, please let me know what you find out ASAP. Maybe my GM parts guy punched the number in wrong - did you order the number I posted (9422601)?

Talk later,
Lloyd

Apparently, pn 9422601 is not available through SPO/Dealerships by the general public. I was told that 9422601 is a "production" part and cannot be ordered. And thus you were told the pn is no good. I would definitely not pay $4 each (unless each means 33 pcs.) for pn 9440166. I'd be more inclined to goto a well supplied hardware store and find "#10-16 x 1/2" long hexagon washer head drilling and tapping black sheet metal screws" 30 for $1.99.

I will let you know the quality of 9422601 when I see them. I might be able to scare up a few....

Was able to access 9422601. They are still manufactured in black phosphated/annodized with the factory "s" stamped into the head. I was informed by Ron Jansen that an "s" appears on the hex-head on his original 72 Ram Air GTO. Ron, it appears that you right about the appearance. Thanks!

Dan:

Do you think that since I was able to help you out with the p/n, you might be able to do me a favor and order me 40 of them?

Thanks in advance,
Lloyd
