Trying to figure out which 4 spd. I have. Here are the numbers off the trans.

POS25A 3952648 OK167734 392566

There is one ring on the input shaft (M-21), but doesn' t the 'A' at the end of the first number mean M-20?

Yes, an A is an M20, but all you have to do is change the input and cluster to get the m21 tranny. Probably someone rebuilt it at sometime and changed those pieces.

Thanks 74. Could just the imput shaft been replaced? I may pop the side cover off and see if I can count the teeth on the gears or something. I would like to take a look anyway.

You can't change just the input gear--the cluster must match it. Stick it in low and count the turns on the output. But there's no logical reason to mill rings in a shaft if it wasn't to ID it. It's the no-ring shafts that could be anything.

Thanks for clearing that up Shadowjack. I know pretty much nothing about transmissions. How do y' all think a close ratio will work with a 3.55 gear and approx. 26" tall tires with a 400?

A 3.55 gear is probably the highest you would want to run, but it will work great with the close ratio tranny
