Dumps are great if you are planning on racing or your pissed at your neighbors. Dumps basically eliminate the mufflers and tailpipes from the equation (which can restrict the flow of your exhaust, reduce horsepower and quiet down the sound) when you have them open. Lots of racers will drop their entire exhaust after the manifolds when they race but with dumps, you just uncap them and get the same performance boost.

I'd say, if you are planning on racing, consider the dumps. If you aren't racing, they won't have much appeal to you.

What does everyone else think?

You don't need dumps with a system like yours.
I bet it will be a quick street car with the setup that you are mapping out but putting dumps on this kind of setup is like showing up at a kegger party with teacups

Why get dumps?? Performance!!!

Nice thing about dumps....you dont have to run un-corked if you dont want to.

I only un-cork mine when I race...and when I want to make the babies cry at parades.

When I was running my old 350 and 2-1/2" exhaust I would lose almost 2 tenths if I uncorked it.

Now with the 462 I don't bother. I don't think uncorking a 3" system will do any good. Maybe one of these days I'll open 'em up for kicks and giggles and see what happens.

All depends on your combo. Some cars will run slower uncorked some faster. A friend of mine with a Camaro with big block Cheby power gained almost .3 in the quarter when he uncorked.

Anyone ever try the elec. switch cut-outs sold by DMH Performance? A bit pricy, but could be "priceless" on an occasion next to a ricer at a stoplight!

I have the DMH electrics on my 65 and love them!
Pulling in and out of Cruise nights has a whole new meaning now.

I have electric dumps on a Pypes Xchange 2.5" X pipe. On the dyno with the dumps open, the car went from around 300 hp to around 310hp peak and a little more torque. I don't remember the actual increase.

I run about a tenth quicker with them open even with a 3" exhaust including an x-pipe.

As far as electric dumps go, have any of you guys down there had this problem? Here in BC I know a couple guys who got checked by eager beaver cops. They were fined & told to remove dumps. seems up here cable or electric is illegal, but bolt on is ok because you have to stop & get out to uncap them. Guess it depends on the cop too.
