Hey Guys. My new combo is making 600+ hp. Would I be losing much using an 1 7/8 header? I have heard 600+ hp you should use a 2" header. I have also heard that the 1 7/8 will probably give me more torque. I really dont think I need that tho as I am over 600 ft lbs. What should I use 1 7/8 or 2"??????????????

Also you guys running '65 - '67 GTOs. What headers are you guys using. Right now I am looking at Hedman Hustlers and the IA headers. Neither are cheap.

If anyone has used either of these headers could you tell me how they fit? Complete bitch to install or not?

Looking for some quick help here. Need to order ASAP cuz it looks like a 4 week wait.

Thanks for the help,

KEv

I don't make the horsepower that you do. My car, a '65 GTO, runs 12.18 at 111 MPH at a high altitude track in Southern California. It is Palmdale, CA. My first set of headers were the HO Racing tri y headers. Truly a bolt on header with good performance. Last year I went to Doug's Headers, Doug Thorleys new company and picked up .2 in ET and 2.07 MPH. This was a true back to back at the track test. Doug's headers are also truly a bolt on header. I did have to remove my filter adapter and oil filter but that was it. I highly recommend them and besides, Doug and Dorothy Thorley along with the rest of the crew are great people. You may reach Doug's Headers at 714-502-0286. If Doug is not in talk to Paul.

1 7/8 will work great.

Good luck and have fun!!!!!!!!!

Ron

A 2" header that is truly equal length is very hard to fit into that chassis. I don't know if I make that much horsepower in either of my cars, but I have 1 7/8" headers in the 64 Tempest and a stepped header from 1 7/8" to 2" in the 64 GTO. The Tempest has run 10.70's through the mufflers and the GTO ran 10.80 at 129.31 with open exhaust when it had full 1 7/8" headers. I have never run it since I had the stepped headers.

OMT, who mad your headers? How much were they? I think both te hedmans and the IA headers are going to end up being near $800 when it is all said and done. OUCH! Man it is getting expensive to go fast

How much of a pain in the rear were yours to get on? Were they coated?

Hopefully I can call you at work in the next day or so.

Thanks for the info,

Kev

Hey Torqjunki! Why did you pick 1 3/4? Did you dyno your combo? Try any other headers? I want more deatails on your combo....

Thanks for the reply,

Kev

Kev - I am on Jury Duty tomorrow so wait to call. The ones on the racecar are Headers by Ed. They were about $950 when I got them, and then I had them coated. The ones on the GTO are a custom set by JBA. They are designed like the ones on the Tempest, but with some improvements. I had them made with a thicker flange, thicker primary tubes and a goilet in the collector. I wanted them more heavy duty for the nitrous and the infinite use I expect out of the car. These were about $1200 installed, counting the coating. Each set has one or more bolts that are hard to get at, but they both install very easily. It helps to have a mini-starter so you can get at some of the bolts from underneath. The small starter goes in and out without loosening the headers.

Definately stick with the 1 7/8 unless you are running NOS.

OK Jim now I know why your still working. Not one but two 10 second cars. Most guys dream of having one. Well I think that's pretty cool.
