I'm putting on a set of Moroso valve covers and was wondering about the crankcase ventilation. On one valve cover I'm going to have a breather that I'll hook up to my PCV but what should I do with the other side? Should I keep it sealed?

Thanks,
Phil

Is this for the street car or do you run it at the track also?

You should have ventilation on the other side as well to release any excessive pressure that the PVC doesn't pick up under high RPM situations.

You do want to vent the other bank if your going to be running it hard. I would tie it into your exhaust if you can. I know moroso sells the kit with the checkball so exhaust gasses do not back feed into the engine. It's real simple to do. Good luck. Ed

Thanks - Jeg's has a kit by MR. Gasket. Unfortunately I already had my Headers coated. Can I weld the tubes into the Flow Tech exhaust cutouts? If I do both banks with this setup - what about the PCV?

Phil ,Install a crankcase evac system if you are going to be racing any ,you will be sorry because you are going to develop oil leaks do to the pressure in the crankcase.
I didn.t install one initally in my dads 10 sec T/A and it blew oil everywhere after a couple of runs.Luckily he didn't blow out the rear main seal & we did a leakdown test & it was fine.I corrected this problem as soon as we got back home by installing a header evacuation system.
His headers were ceramic coated as well. I just got the car up as high as possible and used a die grinder and carefully ground an area about 1/2 inch larger than the threaded insert pipe fitting supplied with the kit.Use the die grinder to cut the hole in the collector as well. Then install it as per the instructions(correct depth & angle...) use a magnetic tool to hold the tube in place wile you weld it(mig or tig).Watch your heat setting tack it into place & weld it up use a heat proof paint & paint the welded area.Screw on the check valve, hook up the hose to the check valve & the valve cover adapters and you are ready to go.The area you have to grind if you are careful is very small,However the benifits to the engine are great.
I installed an evac system on my 11sec T/A street strip car as well.I am sure that in order for the system to work properly it should be installed in the collector the kit should tell you the approximate location. You will not need the PCV.Install it on both banks.Hope this helps
Later mark B.

I installed a pan evac system on my Tempest, but I used the Shogun upper part. The breathers are turned aluminum and they are held in place on the valve cover with a large nut. This way they cannot come off of the valve cover. They have an AN fitting so you run braided line from the breather to the nipple that gets installed in the collector. It is pricier, but I am very happy with the installation. Go to the following web page and look at the third picture down. You can see the one side.

I was always told that you can not run an evac system with an exhaust because the back pressure actually adds to the crank. So, I put a tee into the bottom of the air cleaner and ran hoses from the the valve covers the the breather. The air rushing into the carb makes enough vacuum that things seem to be ok plus as the rpms rise there is more of a vacuum created. This might not be the best system but but it seems to work for me.

Thanks guys. I wish that I had gave this some thought earlier but as the saying goes "Live and Learn". I'm going to take all your advice and install a system. I just don't know which one yet. Maybe I'll go Mark's route. I'll have to think about it for a couple of days. At least the motor and therefore the headers are still out of the car at this point.

Later,

Phil

I run my pan evac system with full exhaust. Granted they are very free flowing. It is a full 4" two chamber Flowmaster system.

I had the same problem at the strip. With it spit oil out of the dipstick tube and gaskets. So I installed the Moroso Evac system. Works fine at the strip, stop oil leaks. But I noticed on the street with any lenght of crusing it pulls oil down into the exhust and smokes. So in street trim I just hook the two hoses together and run a pvc. This is in a 12.0-11.9 455. Exhust is 3" x cross over with 2.5 Hemi turbos and 2.5 tail pipes.
