Is it possible to remove the timming chain cover on a 1966 GTO 389, without removing the
fuel pump?

Yes it is. But, You will have to take it off of the cover to put the cover back on. It is possible to put it back on but the cam concentric has to be at the side that does not put any pressure on the pump arm...
I've never ben able to do that..Yet!

Thank you for your responce. The reason I am asking is -- I paid a guy to install a new timming chain and gears. Later I noticed that
the bolts holding the fuel pump had a ton of crud on them and you could tell that it had never been touched. I think i got ripped off.
I'm going to confront this person tomarrow.

Bob,
Look for the sign of fresh sealer around the timing cover. Also look for sealer at the intake where it contacts the timing cover.
Get under the car and look for the 4 bottom bolts that connect the cover to the pan. Most times they are dirty from years of grunge. They should show signs of being taken on or off. Any Mechanic would remove the fuel pump to do a timing cover on a Pontiac. It should also show signs of sealer around the fuel pump. Ask for the old
timing gears and chain. I always give them to the customer to check out!
