I am picking up a '69 428 HO this weekend (to rebuild) and I have been looking for pistons. All I can find are Hypereurectic. Does anyone make forged pistons w/o having to get custom pistons made?
Would the Hypereurectic pistons hold up to NOS or should I keep looking for forged? |

Scott, does Summit stock these? I did a search and didn't see anything that was stocked for a 428. Jeg's had the SRP but not for a 428.

SRPs or Ross, only way to go! Venolia will make them as well.
The off the shelf SRPs are +.065" and are by far the best buy on the market for 428s. Call P'dude or KRE for the same. SECOND AMENDMENT: AMERICA'S ORIGINAL HOMELAND SECURITY. I Misus Rash'!

If the block was already .030 I wouldn't mind getting the SRP's but I don't want to go that much. I would like to be able to go just .030 the first time around. I have contacted Paul Spotts and he can get me the TRW's.

There is no more TRW. Hasn't been for many years. And Sealed Power/Speed Pro quit making the "Forged" one over 5 years ago.
Yes SRP makes them and I have run them in my 76 T/A with over 400Hp of spray and rpm's in the 7600 range for many seasons. 9.40's @ 146. Yes they are a good piston. I run what I sell and sell what I run. How many other Pontiac builders can claim that!!!! Build it fast, build it right, build a Pontiac. http://PontiacDude.cc |

Damn!! I hate to go .065 over on a standard bore block, but I have been hearing good reports on the SRP's. I have to make a call to Larry Hansen, here in NJ, he will be doing the machine work.
Thanx, everybody, for all the input. |

I had custom Ross pistons made for my engine and they did not cost a whole lot more than off the shelf SRP's. That included pin fitting for floaters.

Well the 428 deal went sour!!
Dude, this one is for you!! Could a 428 crank be cut down to put into a 400 block? Or would a SCAT/CAT/Eagle/whatever crank be preferred? I may be able to get a 428 crank. |
