I built my headers in 1994. Sent them to HPC (High Performance Coatings) and had them done in and out. They still look brand new today. Go with the coating! It is money well spent!

Headres on my TA now were done in 1988. Had the drivers side redone in 1997 scratched a few too many times.

Some of you guys may remember the old Alumina-coating-molten aluminum sprayed on. That lasted a year on these headers before going to HPC.

My 409 headers are stil in good shape after a 1971 chroming. Awful blue from when I fired the motor with the timing chain off a tooth!

yeah skip...the old Appliance "blackjacks" started with that stuff in late '70s. they had a rough texture and did not have that polished look.
then there was the old, "made in USA" hookers that had a nice silver finish too.
