STARTING A NEW MOTOR FOR BRACKET RACING , WILL MORE THEN LIKLY BE A 40OVER 400 RACE ONLY LOOKING FOR 7.5 IN THE 1/8 MILE HAVE A SET OF 96 D PORT HEADS OFF OF A 71 MODEL 400 I BELIEVE THESE ARE 8.0 TO 1 COMP HEADS ARE THEY WORTH THE TROUBLE? WOULD LIKE TO SEE ABOUT 11 TO 1 COMP

For an 11:1 400 you have the wrong head. Even with a max mill of .060 and a .060 overbore you will be seeing about 9.5:1 at most. There are plenty of high-compression 400 iron heads out there, find a set made from '67-'70 with 72 to 80cc and your 400 will have 11:1 with no problem at all. Casting numbers 670, 16, 62, 48, 12 and 13 are the ones to look for. [img]/infopop/emoticons/icon_cool.gif[/img]

thanks b man , i am currently running #16 on my racerwhich is a 60over 400 , i have 670 on my 428 66 gto and have several other sets of heads , i was just curious about the 96 d ports, any one need a set of #96 d ports ? will trade, be good on a street motor
