My 67 GTO has been in storage for seven years. I want to rotate the motor manually to loosen it up and to get it lubricated throughout. I've pulled the spark plugs, and removed the intake and valley pan to expose the cam.
My plan is to first spin the oil pump till the system shows oil flow or pressure, spray some oil into the cylinders, lubricate the cam and then slowly turn the crankshaft.
Now that I've told you what I plan to do, can you guys tell me what I really should do. When should I change the oil, should I pre-lube the cam with something other than oil, etc.
thanks - Jim

What you heve planned should be fine.Allthough I would use a penatrating oil sprayed into the ports to wet the valve stems seats & faces. When you roll the eng.over use a torque wrench to verify that it takes no more than 40 ft.lbs.

Buy or make a tool to spin the oil pump shaft to prime. the motor. This will insure that everything has oil.

i'd also clean the fuel system if it's been 7 yrs since it ran . it'll be a lot easier now then it will after all the varnish and rust is pulled through the system. mike
