Greetings, guys.
I used to have a web address for a company that specialized in HEI harnesses that adapted to an original points harness with a cleaner, more "professional" look. Could anyone recommend a company/individual where I could purchase such an adaptable harness? Thanks, A.A. ('68 LM 455) |

Cleaner more professional look? All your doing is unhooking one wire and hooking up another. The points wire(existing)is a resistor wire(9 volts)the HEI needs a straight 12.Just follow the points wire back to the harness block on the fire wall and remove the wire and attach the new one.The clip can be removed and re-soldered to the new wire.Route, retape and you are done.IF you are going to use a Ign. box(MSD,Crane, etc) the 9 volts is enough to trigger the box and no re-wiring is required.

Thanks for the info, Cobra. Have a lil' mercy on us rookies, huh <grins> ?
For those of us without much free time and alot of hearsay, sometimes things aren't as complex as they appear... Your simple explanation will definitely help a guy whose harness was butchered by someone else. Thanks again, A.A. |

When I changed to an HEI I ran a large wire from the ignition (IGN) post on the fuse box, to a toggle switch on the dash and then to the HEI terminal. This gives it 12 volts directly from the power box and a switch to turn off the power (no dieseling) and It allows me to start the car by switching off, letting the engine turn one or two times and switching on for an instant start. It also provides a small amount of theft proofing. Mark L
