Ok after putting on my Hp carb, I knoticed it had no vac ports for dist vac or for power brakes..I can tap the manifold port for the brakes but where can I get ported manifold vac to operate the vac advance?? Am I going to have to swap out a metering block or something, or can you press a barb fitting into the hp block? Also when I installed the carb I adjusted the front idle mix screws and it smoothed out a bit then I went to the rear and turned the mix screws all the way in and the Idle went up more and engine smoothed out, and it only took about 1/2 turn on the rear mix screws ...is that normal...guy I got carb from had em out like 3 turns.

Possibly depending on the type of intake, the idle mixture screws should typically be set equally. At least that's the way mine operates best.

As for the vacuum advance, you have two options. Run manifold vacuum advance or send it to Cliff and let him add a a ported vacuum port to the base plate. He did it to my 950HP and it works flawlessly.

Mike,
does that carb have a stop adjustment for the secondary throttle plates? Maybe they are open too far, requiring the idle mixture screws to be turned in.

I didn't know that about the HP950. I was looking at one for my car down the road. That's good information. Thanks, guys.

I found 1/2 turn out on the rear mix screws worked best along with 1 turn out on the primary side.
