while ordering new cam and lifters the vendors are recommending chevy lifter for pontiac application (solids), i seem to rememder there is a diffrence, and chevy lifters were to be avoided when possible , can anyone tell me what the diffrence is and is there a problem?

The band on the chevy lifter is in a differant location,and the plunger sets down lower so you might need a longer push rod.

The main diffrence is the oil band height.On small base circle cams, the band area can drop
below the lifter bore and cause a major oil pressure drop,and on the way up can get caught on lifter bore and shatter the lifter,bore,or both! Don`t go there. Get real Pontiac lifters! |

Punch is right. Do not use the Chevy lifters. I learned the hard way. Get the Crowers that are Pontiac specific.
