I think I talked myself into the 400 long rod combo. Was checking into BME rods. A racer friend at work led me to believe that aluminum rods have a short lifetime. A lot of money if they wont hold up for long. This is mainly for street (hope I'm not overdoing it).So here is what I've come up with.
400 +.060
455 pistons +.030
HO Racing HC 03 cam
BME 6.855 aluminum rods
holley street dominator intake
th 350 tranny
2800 stall? gears?
Will this thing be a bit much for street and how well do the rods hold up under occasional strip and mostly street use?

No problem with aluminum rods, however leave the rod a little shorter as you need .050 minimum deck for stretch (compared with .035 for a safe steel rod combo) with higher rpms. I like to put the aluminum rod down in the hole .020 with a .039 Felpro 1016 gasket. Then you can deck your block for proper distance and trueness at the same time. Better safe then sorry. Hope this helps, Later.

I personally know of a T/A that has had BMEs in it for 15 years.
