I can't find a "4" or an "8" on my `77 6x heads...on the boss where I thought it should be. Could it be marked somewhere else?

Search this subject. Identifying these heads has been thoroughly covered before including pics.

looking at the head on the spark plug side. Look above the leftmost exaust port. right above it on an flange that sticks out. there will be a stamp of 4 or 8. its about 1/4- 1/2 tall.

I've found very weak stampings on several heads, so I suppose there could be some that aren't marked. Anyway, safe bet is to cc heads ,as that os the only difference, about .020 off the 4s as compared to the 8s, and who knows what 25 yr old head has been thru? Good luck.

I will try this for you. look above and left of the second head bolt hole, above and right of the 1st spark plug hole. there is a little ledge (on head pictured it has a little chip in it).

P Dude great info and glad to see something like that on here. Gave me some new ideas as far as if I want to ever build a low compression pump gas motor. Thanks

Thanks to all for the help. I used a mirror, flashlight and after a bit of cleaning - I saw a 4!

I can't wait to deck these down to say 80cc and stick `em on a 400.
