Or try your local tire changing place.
Get their old weights.

Just use a torch or probably propane torch and melt it.It's doesn't take much heat to melt.

You can melt it in a castiron pot and pour it into a used valve cover, drill two holes to secure it, thats what we do on our dirt track cars, a tire store can usually give you all the lead you need, cheap. Rick

what the dude said...a roundy round shop will have plenty of that stuff, along with all the other "dead weight" those kind of shops have laying around.

Ray, I own a tire store. I have a 55 gallon drum 2/3 full of old wheel weights. I'll UPS it to you, if you pay freight of course. : )

Or I'll give you a bunch at Atlanta.

Or we can go to my shop and make em when you get here.

I'll give you a discount if you give back my sockets.

I'll stop mow........

Make sure to read the regulations on weight bars.

The valvecover trick won't fly in NHRA.

Ray, rod in N.C. If you melt your own lead PLEASE DO SO ONLY IN WELL VENTILATED AREA. It is extremely dangerous to inhale the fumes from melting lead.I still have headaches from it/not counting the brain damage.(its 10:30 and i am plucking on this d--- computer/proof enough? )

Don't have a rule book handy. but you can't weld two 1/2" rods upright to the floor in the trunk and mount the lead there?

That's how they allow a battery to be fastened, right?

What nc rod said. You need to do it outside and stay upwind to avoid getting a lifetime supply of lead poisoning in a few minutes.

Hey Ray, I thought maybe you had died since you haven't been returning my phone calls or emails. I see you're alive and well and posting. So... where's the money you owe me you incompetent weasel??

What's it been...over three months now and you still haven't sent me my money back! If you don't respond to me via voice or email, and I mean f#ck!ng soon, you're going to start to see a lot of threads dedicated to why people shouldn't do business with you.

Ray - ran into this last rear when I removed the weight bars from the dragster when we added the body. As johnta1 stated (nice job John) the NHRA has specific rules on mounting weight bars/ballast. Instead of melting lead, what the chassis shops do is to add lead shot. Easily purchased at gun/ammo supplies. I got mine from a place called "Target World" an indoor target practice place that sells lead shot by the 25 pound bag. Get the smallest shot they sell and fill um up - no dangerous/messy melting. The bars can be capped off with freeze plugs(welded) or you can use pipe plugs to add/remove shot. The ballast we made here was a custom box that mounts in between my frame rails from 1/4" plate with a Moroso bung and cap - I can add/remove shot to adjust weight. Its easier to mount a box then mount bars in my opionion - I still have my lead filled pipes(bars) if your interested - free - just pay the frieght 3 bars added up to 70 something pounds. I still have the billet brackets to mount them as well - but would need to charge for those.
