Took off my fender on my 69 gto today to make it easier to remove a few dents and body work but found a big rust hole. The panel thaat attaches to the firewall that cannot be seen when fender is on has rust through on the side really bad and a little towards the front of the car. Dont really know what this panel is called but it is the panel directly in front of where the door hinges bolt to.My question is how does this panel come off?appears to be just seam sealer but dont really know.Question two, does anyone one make a replacement panel for this or am i gonna have to fab one?searched some of the parts catalogues i have and came up with nothing.could probably just cut a piece of metal and patch it in since noone will see it anyway but want it done right.any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks

That piece is welded in place and the seam is sealed from the factory with seam sealer.
I do not knowof anyone reproducing that particular panel. Either find a donor car and cut out the panel, or cut out all the rust and fabricate a panel to draft into place. Weld it in and seal the seams. Since it is hidden by the fender it should make the repair a bit more forgiving, but at least you will have eliminated the cancer. Don |
