I am going to be taking a DA sander to my T/A soon and was wondering if using Wally marts sandable primer is acceptable to use? I only have a 5hp(5.9 @90psi) compressor and want to save money by stripping the old paint myself. Well I have to cover it with something after I strip it so I thought I could get away with using that primer. What do you think? My first time doing this and do not know what else to use with limited funds and resources.

Your compressor will never keep up with the DA sander. I know-- I tried it once with a 5.5hp/6.4cfm compressor. You'd also be better off using a metal prep solution instead of the cheap primer. That'll give you a better starting point for the real primer you'll need later on. Hope this helps

I used Duplicolor rattle cans on the 68. I bought the primer sealer ones. Supposed to seal out water. Looks good, but I am stripping it off once I get it painted though

Yeah if you use the spray can primer be sure to strip it off before you put on the good primer or paint.I tried painting over some a couple times and for some reason that cheap primer makes the paint crack as soon as it`s sprayed on.

It'll be ok for inside storage if you strip it off again before you put down the real primer.

If it's going outside I'd get some self etching epoxy primer.. it won't chalk up over time and wash away. PLus you won't have to strip it off again..

I'm doing dp90 for now. i dont want to waste money on primer until i finish all my body work. there is no point to waste money, but that into your car. I would fix all the rust and body work. then strip it down when you have the money. I've wasted so much money in the past buying primer
