I have a GTO -70, Orbit Orange, 455 and auto. Documented from PHS and everything is there except a black vinyl top, a hood tach and a judge wing. I have owned it since -78. Could this be dealer installed or what? If somebody else had done this it must have been before -78.

The hood tach and judge wing could have been added by anyone but I have never see anybody add a vinyl top but anything is possible.
What phs says is the way the car came from the factory.

Welcome to PY board.

To further answer your questions, on the vinyl tops for the '68-72's, when they were added back in the '70's by aftermarket concerns, the oem stainless moldings & corner moldings were not used. Instead the lower moldings were either a molded plastic or dull alum affair that snapped on plastic clips that were rivetted to the body. Fairly easy to spot.

Decklid spoilers... might remove the spoiler, & look at the holes. Factory holes will be punched, owner/dealer installed holes will be drilled. One could also remove the hood tach & look at the hole as well. The factory hole was quite round, not cut out with a saber saw.

Thanks alot for the answers.

All moldings are stainless steel except the "corner" at the rear side window (from the back and then up at the back of the window), it´s chromed alu.

I will look at the holes for the wing and tach in the near future.

Does the paint code on the firewall match the PHS documentation? If the 2 codes are alike then must be aftermarket. However, as we have discussed here many times, one just never knows, especially the CA built cars.

The color at PHS says T T. Upper and lower Orbit Orange in the document. The codes at the firewall should then be 60 60 if I had understand it right? On the firewall it says 06 06...? So the vinyl top, I guess, is not from the factory? The car is made in Pontiac (P).

Also, if I recall correctly, the spoiler/wing equipped cars had 1 trunk rod as opposed to 2 for the standard GTO. On 70 M.Y. cars, the trailing edge of the spoiler support should be exactly where the trunk begins to curve downward.

btw, the 06 06 on the data place is incorrect. It's a mistake at the factory and should be 60 60. My '70 Orbit Orange has the same oddity. Interesting huh OPH? Mine was shipped on 3-12-70 from Pontiac Mich to South Bend IN. Hey, today is it's 34th anniversary of shipment.

TommyHG, when was yours shipped, from what factory and to where?

I´ve always wondered about this 06 and have never heard of another car with this "backwards" numbers. So it was fun too hear about another car with this. My car was shipped 12-10-69, also from Pontiac Michigan!?

3 months is a long stretch for that kind of mistake. I wonder what the plate stamping process was back in the day? Probably the same person on a certain shift stamping Orbit Orange plates incorrectly one after another.

My car was ordered: Ram Air III, 3 spd, black bench seat, tinted windows, p-steering and AM radio. Spring/shocks too.
