I've got headman shorty headers on my 79 TA. They fit like a glove, no problems getting them in at all. However, I have an automatic so I can't say it would be the same for you. After putting them on I could hear a nice difference in the sound of the exhaust and feel a little extra power when I mash the gas .

From the pics I have seen, there should be no problems with the fit around the clutch linkage. My concern is the connection between the header and the rest of the exhaust system. Clearly once this header is selected, you have two options. A crush bent, near 90 degree bend less than a foot away from your port or something welded up from some mandrel bends. I'm not one to re-invent the wheel. Looking at the Pypes site, it appears some of their tail pipes might have the appropriate angle to work for a down pipe on this header.

I think I'm going to go ahead and order this header and see how it fits on my Formula 400/4M. I've lowered my car so I need the ground clearance and doubt any conventional header is going to do what I will need it to do. My motor mount is a little soft on the passenger side so I will want to replace that first.

CCass, I already have your 2.5" X-pipe kit and tails and have the ability to cut and tack weld the tubing. I'm not in a huge hurry so I can be a test subject it you are interested.

I can tack some of the tubing up, match it to the X-pipe set up, tack it up and email you some pics. If you like what you see, I can ship it to you. You can jig it up in exchange for putting some pretty welds on it and shipping it back to me. Or maybe I can have some crush pipe made up locally and send it to you to duplicate in mandrel. Email me if intersted.

Robert, I don't have any pictures of the install, and I am at college without my car so I can't take any for you, sorry. As for connecting to the rest of the exhaust system, some universal S bend tubing did the trick. Summit sells a pair for 20 bucks with the collectors already attached from headman, however, I just welded the collectors on to some S bends I had lying around. The one side fit perfect and I just had to heat up the other and bend it a little bit to get it to fit because the headers were a little bit different for each side. Also, I had to get some new ignition wires (90 degree ones) because the straight style ones i had on there were touching the header on the middle cylinders. Hope that helps, when I said they fit like a glove before I was refering to getting them in, I didn't have to unbolt any of the motor mounts or anything like that, they both slipped in from the top.

Brian, I'm lost. What engine do you have? On Pontiac engines, the spark plugs are way above the exhaust flange. Also, the shorty headers exits are angled down and out to the sides. I don't see how an "S" shaped bend would work. Maybe an "L" shaped bend although I suspect the 90 degree angle may not be enough and closer to a 100-120 degree bend would be needed.

Grand, so what's the verdict on the shorties? Also, how far below the height of your oil pan is your exhaust??? It's hard to get perspective from your photos.

Wow, I failed to mention that I have a 350 chevy and not a poncho mill. Your topic just said F body shorty headers. I guess everything I have said is irrelevant then, sorry bout that.
