It wasn't raining so it was the perfect time to take the goat to it's winter grazing grounds. A few blocks from home (in the middle lane of a very busy street) she just sputtered to a stop and would not re-start. It turned over hard, it just wouldn't start. My first task was get the hell out of the middle lane, my wife was following...she turned on her flashers and a couple of guy's hopped out of their cars eager to lend a hand (or put a hand) on the beautiful 65. Called my mechanic (on a saturday...he was at a soccer game) and found out the he would get his shop open. Called AAA and about 1.5 hours later they showed up with the flatbed. For some reason I was thinking timing belt since I just put in a new MSD distributor about 3 months ago. They checked today and think it's the distributor but they just did a quick glance (the distributor is covered for a year by MSD).

Any other thoughts?

If your timing chain slipped, you would be able to rotate the distributor and get it to start and run badly. How about fuel? Out of gas? clogged fuel filter? Dirt in carb jets?

Obviously the first thing to do is see if you have spark, then see if the spark is on time.

Sorry to report....it's a bad distributor from MSD. Sent it back for warranty replacement.

Sorry?
I don't get it. Were you hoping for the timing chain?

Greg,
I'm not sorry it's not the timing chain....I was just sorry it was anything. I didn't mean to mislead.

Just my lame attempt at humor. I am glad that it wasn't something more serious and that the part was under warranty.
