I put a tko600 in my 65 GTO this summer. I learned most of what i needed from this forum. Missed shifts refers to 2nd to 3rd and hitting 5th,kinda blows your e.t. Cut the floor pan and rotate it then splice a piece of sheet metal on side gap. Get the optional GM 2" offset shifter, 26 spline clutch disc, 31 spline diveshaft yoke and move the trans mount back 1.5". You should have 1" spacing between the rear rubber boot on trans and face of driveshaft yoke. You'll love it.

Mountain goat,Are you saying that you do have problems with shifting or you don't.When the sift is missed is it because it won't go in(it binds)or dose it grind, maybe it's just a matter of getting to know the H pattern of the shifter?I'm curious because i want to buy one.
Thanks.

Just to clear up my post, the TKO is the best shifting trans I have ever had.I have a ST-10 in one car and a Muncie in 2 other cars.I have driven the 5 and 6 speed Richmonds and non compare. The problem as I said when "I" try to power shift 3rd to 4th,SOMTIMES I push a little too far and hit between 2 gears. No grinding just a missed gear.I run a Hurst Billet shifter with a Hurst flat shifter arm.Tom

Charlie, What I meant was the shift pattern is so tight that you hit 5th instead of 3rd, no grinding just a precipitous drop in rpm.Incidently, getting initially logged on to this forum was harder than installing the TKO. I guess that says something about my computer skills. Good luck, Mt. Goat

Howdy guys -

I need to ask a silly question here. The TKO-600 is rated at 600lb-ft of torque. Has anyone here had problems with it not being able to handle the HP/TQ you throw at it? I just got done toasting 1st gear on my Muncie and have been tossing around a few options; the TKO is certainly one of them.

The reason I ask the durability question is the present motor has plenty of torque (broke 2 rearends, twisted axles in two, and now it ate 1st gear). It seems like these Poncho's can hit the 600 lb-ft threshold pretty easily; especially if you're spraying N2O.

Any thoughts on that?

Just in case any of you guys are interested in a brand new one, I have one with the offset shifter position to work with stock consoles, never out of the box. Also have the clutch, bellhousing, etc.. I will sell for a great price and there is no waiting for tremac (13wks backorder last year when I ordered!)

it is the TKO 600 with .82 overdrive. Bought the entire kit for a 66 goat from Keisler and then changed directions with the project and sold the car.

I think it is a great trans for the street with some race use.BUT,untill someone comes up with a 5th-rev lockout I would say to go with a Jerico for dragrace use.NO ONE is going to drag race a stick shift serious without powershifting!IMHO,Tom

Big Country, I might be interested as well. I have been checking out the Keisler site for some time now.

Keep me posted should gearbanger not purchase it.
