I have a stock type posi in my 8.2 rearend. The gears on it now are 2.98 I think(41/14). What is the lowest gear ratio I can fit on that carrier? I would like to have a 3.23 if it would fit. If so does anyone have one they would sell. Thanks

I have a set of 3.55 gears (I think). I can confirm when I get home if you are interested.

don't think the 3.55 will work with goatroper's carrier. BOP had three different carriers in the 8.2 I believe, the following geer ratios for each...2.76 & down / 2.94 to 3.23 / 3.31 & up.

Ah, I was always confused on the carriers. Well, anyone else need 'em?

NO. Check your GTOI Resto guide or 68 Pontiac service manual. Mike Lemley

If your going to get a posi, thats a different carrier than the open you have now, so get the one for the gears you want.

Hey Avenger, I am ready to buy the Richmond 3.55 Ring&Pinion set and the Auburn 3.36 & up posi unit. The new gears are $249 at Jegs. How much do you want for yours and what shape are they in?
Thanks,
JG

I was mistaken. They are 3.36 gears.

75 bucks plus shipping. They weighed in at 11 lbs.

Your current carrier with 2.93 gears (not 2.98) will only fit 2.93, 3.08 and 3.23 gears.

You're in luck if you can scrounge up a goood set of used 3.23s.

2-series carrier - 2.56 & 2.78 gears

3-series carrier - 2.93, 3.08 & 3.23 gears.

4-series carrier - 3.36, 3.55, 3.90 & 4.33 gears (these are stock ratios, the aftermarket covers some in-between ratios)
