Interested in purchasing a good carb for my 462 motor. Pro-Systems was of interest to me after talking to Patrick James. Looking for input on this shop and maybe other quality suppliers of carbs.
Thanks |

There are different ways to lean the idle curcuit. I balance the idle feed restriction with the size of the air bleed to get a clean idle and part throttle. Restricting the amount of fuel through the main body is a way, but it is much better to get the correct mixture, than to limit the amount of "incorrect" mixture.
The only way to "find" the correct mixture is plenty of dyno time, and lots of trial and error. |

74t/a,
Yes there are different way's to lean the idle circurt and people have different approaches. If your mixture is the "Correct mixture" then why do you have to resize the idle feed and the air bleeds? I see your a machinist and so am I, I have tried the IFR and airbleed method I have found better results using the transition jet method. As your aware long duration cams generate more vacuum just off idle than idle itself, the increase in vacuum leads to an overly rich mixture which in most cases produces a lazy throttle responce. This can be fixed by appropriatly jetting the fuel supply to the transition slots.

FWIW, I know several people who have pro system carbs and have very good luck with them.

If you get the mixture correct, there is no reason to restrict the transition slot passage. It will recieve the correct mixture already. |

I can honestly say I haven't had much luck with the Pro Systems carb on my car. I swapped a BG750 to a Pro Systems 950 and my car slowed down 3 tenths. When I called Patrick he told me to jet it up I went from 82/91 all the way up to 100's increasing by 2 each change- no difference. Changed bleeds and squiters- no difference. But then again everything I have done this year has slowed me down. I have spent $4000 dollars this year on carb, heads, converters etc and slowed down 4 tenths-lol
