Guys I've got a problem and I'm not sure whats causing it.I'm running a 71 455 HO with a CC xe274h it has 14 hg of vac and I've changed the spring under the piston. I'm using the Eldebrock spring kit and none of the are letting the piston lower the primary rods into the jets. This is a 77 Q-jet. With the motor running I can take screw driver and push down the piston set up while the motor is running. I've checked the vac feed to the piston and it is open. Could it be that the piston is just wore out and that could cause the vac not to apply. The piston does move freely in the up and down motion. Any guesses?

14 in/hg is plenty and should pull any original pp spring that i know of.
I often use the GM #7037305 pp spring.
Check if correct upper and lower gaskets is used on fuel bowl.

The upper and lower gaskets are correct. Could a drilled hole 1/16 in the throttle plates poss affect this or does the piston have to much clearance from wear? Maybe it needs new throttle bushings installed in the throttle plate?
