Been using Crower's 60919 cam in very similiar engines. It is very close to the RAIV grind, ICL is 113. Makes strong power to 5500rpm with 1.65 rockers, decent idle and acceptable low speed qualities for daily use......Cliff

Same 455/6X-4 combo here. I was thinking about decking the block instead of milling the heads as a hedge against detonation. I've had borderline high compression engines in the past thinking I was a hot shot and could handle it. Not good results because I get lazy with my tuning after it's dialed in and once the tune loses it's edge well...I tend to just drive it. (Hey, I'm being honest)

I use a similiar combo in the Ventura. The 6X-4's were cut .030", block decked for zero, Crower 60919 cam set at 109ICL. Currently using an iron intake, 800cfm q-jet, 4 tube headers and 1.65 rockers. Haven't had the first problem with running hot/overheating or managing pump fuel. The cooling system is still stock with the tiny 3 row Modine radiator.

Spend some time on the 6X heads. Remove the large smog bumps in the exhaust port roof, open up for 1.77 exhaust valves, good cleanup in the ports, good valves and springs. Modify the pushrod holes for the addition of high ratio rockers and make sure you install enough spring for at least .530" lift. If you are not using longer valves/taller springs measure the clearance between the retainers and seals. I had to lower the valve guides and remove some material from the bottom of the stock retainers for clearance.

The engine is mild enough for daily use, runs very well at the track. Typical ET's with DOT tires and so-so traction run from 12.20 to 12.60. This is in full street trim thru the exhaust. I would suspect with open exhaust and slicks high 11's to very low 12's......Cliff

I've used the Comp-280AH10, and like it. .531" lift with 1.65 rockers, 232/239 (if I remember right) @ .050" on a 110-lda. Installed it at 106-icl. Went 12.78 @ 106 in a 4150 lb. T/A with a 3.23 gear.

Thanks Cliff. I'm going to run the 177 SS valves 5.095 in. length I think. I'll probably fill the crossovers, blend the bowls, knock down the EGR bumps and polish the exhaust ports. I may port match the intakes also. Eastwood sells that porting kit with instructions so I may go with their recomendations. Don't know about decking until I get my crank and rods back from the shop for mock-up.
