In your engine it will act between the stock 067 and 068 camshaft.

Yes, many are running it in a low comp motor and liking it, but if your current valve springs have over 30K miles on them they should get changed out also.
With stock 6X heads or 5C heads you have about .540” retainer to guide clearance so the .466” lift of that cam is fine, but it’s pushing the exh valve springs to there limits.

This is in my oem 400, stock bottom end, 6x-4 heads by Racing Head Service built for Comp 292 cam, so springs are for the 292. Comp roller tip rockers, Hooker headers, Torker II intake, Holley 4150 dbl pumper, torque converter 2500 stall, 3:23 ring & pinion. I may install a dual plane intake, and the oem quadrajet to tone things down? What do ya'll think about the valve springs?

You should probably change out those springs, but no one can make a good recommendation until we know the installed height that RHS applied to your heads.
Also yes, ditch that T2 intake. Here’s some dyno numbers from a 400 with stock 670 heads, about 10.7 comp and a RA4 cam, but without the 1.65 rockers. As you can see the duel plane Performer with a 850 carb makes the others eat dust even with the RA4 cam . A Q-jet on the Performer would be just about as good.

Intakes in question: performer or rpm?

Im really pleased with the Summit 2801 cam in my 400. I have a 70 XV code 400 (330 hp) in a 70 Tempest that was rebuilt and dynod a few years ago. It has the 70 small valve #16 heads (1.96 in/1.66 ex) with 78 cc chambers after a truing cut. The block is well built with forged rods (RPM 4340) and .030 over pistons (Icon) that are .0015 in the hole with .039 Felpro 1016 head gaskets for .0405 quench. The compression is 9.94 to 1 and the ports are untouched. It runs the cast iron 4-bbl intake with a 7040268 Q-jet and cast iron log manifolds. It has the Summit 2801 cam & lifter kit with CC-990 springs with 1.5 factory stamped rocker arms. We just pinned the pressed-in studs to keep them in place.
On the dyno, it made a corrected 384 hp @ 5200 rpm (best) at 454 lbft @ 3600 rpm (358 hp/425 lbft uncorrected) with 2.5 Pypes headpipes. It makes over 18 in. vacuum at idle in neutral and operates the power drum brakes without any problem. It has run a best of 13.18 at 104 mph in the heat and humidity (DA 3200) with 3.42 gears, TH400 trans, full dual exhaust at 3800 lb. race weight. It really needs 3.73/3.90 gears to ET better! The TH400 is programmed to shift automatically at 5600 rpm. It drives easily on 93 octane on the street with a good 4-core radiator and factory flex fan. Dennis |

I think this cam grind has been around for many years. Wolverine sold a cam with those same specs under their Blue Racer brand name before they went out of business.
I have this exact cam in my 1974 455 Trans Am. It has a small amount of lope, and makes a ton of torque. Drivability is excellent, although it can be a little rough idling when cold. My car is basically a bone stock 455 .030" over with stock low compression heads. I am running stock intake and exhaust manifolds. The entire car is stock except for the exhaust. As others have said, it is pretty close to the 068 cam, maybe a little milder. |

I run a 2801 in a 9.25:1 400 automatic car yadda yadda. I love this cam and like the previous post, Jim Hand has reccomended it before in certain 455 applications. In a 400 the 2801 gives great low RPM throttle response, good mileage, and more idle vacuum than a man would ever need.
It's not a whizbang but it will do the same damage |

If your heads have not been ported to flow more then 225 intake cfm@ 28” and seeing that with the 2801 cam most of your run time will be under 4500 rpm, my manifold pick would be the standard performer or a iron intake.

Well, I have 2 oem intakes but I just bought a new Edelbrock Performer intake as I may have to have it milled a bit. Dont wanna modify the original intakes. Should be a decent combo with the 2801 cam. Thanks for all the advice.
