Does antifreeze count?

I'd say it's an option, since it went to Canada.
If it stayed here it would be no option.

I don't know... extra antifreeze is mandatory here in Canada for the 40 below.

If the option was mandatory I would think it would qualify it a zero option car. A friend of mine has a 70 base bird and the only option on the PHS is the evap system, which was mandatory on cars sold new in CA (which is was). I've always considered that car to be a zero option car.

A physics question. Is a liquid an option? This could be the most minutia driven meaningless vintage car question ever posed, but maybe not. I am sure the Corvette restorers addressed it in the 1980's and have a printed ruling. Beyond that, a no option TA is pretty cool!

I could never understand the difference between MI and ON or NY or QC as far as winter temperatures go and why GM in all their wisdom charged extra for antifreeze/coolant. Wouldn't all vehicles off the assembly line be good for -35?

I was thinking about ordering PHS which may show mandatory Canada Z49 equipment (antifreeze?) but I sold the car years ago. It was bought new in Edmonton and -35 isn't always enough protection there. Most cars came with an optional block heater from that area.
As an added note; I bought the car when I was 20 and the column shift had been pulled by the previous owner and it was now floor shift with no console. I remember being surprised that it had a column shift but not caring too much that it was gone. Hey, I was 20. |

And - the answer is "yes". If there is an RPO code for it then it's an option. K

So if this car was side by side with a same car (no option) that did not have Anti Freeze "option"you would say that was a no option car and this was a one option car I guess. In spite of both today would have more current anti freeze rendering the original option "deleted" or "removed". With all due respect, maybe you take this stuff very, very seriously .

I have an 81 Turbo Formula that was built in the same week as an 81 TTA that I used to own. Both came from the same dealership in Vancouver so I'm pretty sure they were side by side on the lot. |

As for the temperature level protection. I'm recalling built for U.S. use was -20 while Canada was -35. But no documentation on that. Anyone have GM paperwork on this? |

I sold the car in the early 90's when I was first married with young kids. The guy that bought it eventually pulled the drive train and called the tow truck driver up to take the body to the wreckers. I thought it had been crushed but I talked to the tow truck driver last year and he was always a Trans Am fan so it didn't go to the crusher but he wasn't really saying where it ended up. I'm keeping my eyes open in case it pops up. I did manage to buy back the numbers 4 speed and 12 bolt posi by fluke - they ended up in a 75 Trans Am that I bought.

Stinker!
Yep - they are options, too. We also now have accessory options and "LPOs", which are dealer option prep packages, which we may have added since you retired. K
