Done Blocking Finally.....................
Well its been a long haul. The car (68 GTO) has been off the road for over 6 years. The car needed everything, but the roof was good. I will be finally painting interior and cutting in jams and edges on all other panels next weekend. I will then reassemble frontend and doors and shoot exterior the following weekend. It will be 1990 Mazda Miata red, which goes to a Ford color called (hot red) with black vinyl top and red interior. Ya, I know (resale red), but it was originally red.............
I sure hope the springs settle down when there is alittle more weight in it. I bought the stock replacement (Moog) springs. I have heard of others that had similar problems with those springs and ended up cutting a coil out. The wheels & tires that are on it will not be on when done. I want to put 15's on front and rear. Right now there are 14" on front and 15" on rear with 50 series which are only 25.5" tall. I hope to be able to use a 28" tall tire in the rear which hopefully will fill the wheel well alittle better...................... http://www.wctc.net/~arm/assembly.htm http://www.wctc.net/~arm/index.htm http://www.wctc.net/~arm/goat%20body.htm http://www.wctc.net/~arm/rotisseri.htm Last edited by goatman-68; 09-03-2007 at 10:52 PM. |

Thanks for the compliments guy's.
But, what about the springs?? Are they going to settle with more weight or am I screwed. Anyone else use the stock replacement Moog springs and have this problem? Tempest455 -- Hey Eric, long time no hear. So when ya moving back to WI. I never got my ride in that bad Tempest of yours like you promised. Mine will be done by spring, I have everything I need now. I still haven't fired the engine yet, but I have had all the rockers backed off so all the valves have been shut for the last three years and has been kept in a temperature and humidity controlled environment, so hopefully all will be good................. |

Hey Goatman,
I did the same thing with my 68 and when I put the fronts in (oem spec moog), the upper control arms were on the snubbers! I was very concerned, but when I started bolting on sheet metal, etc., it started to come down a little. A little higher than I would have expected, but still need to install interior, glass, etc. so it should come down a little more?? The rears were moog "cargo coils" and this might have been a mistake, but doesn't look too high at this point.

cargo coils
gtohunter -- Many years ago when I replaced the springs on the same car I went with cargo coils in the rear, stock w/air cond. in the front and it sat too low in the back compared to the front. I ended up having to put air shocks in the rear to level it out.

Very nice job! Hey, didn't the 68s and 69s sit low in the back from the factory?
