Tom it is pretty accurate on the 5250?
Interpolate using these from the high HP one: RPM - _HP______TQ 5195 - 518.9__ 524.6 5261 - 520.2__ 519.3 Comes out within a hundreth or so. The 'flatness' is probably from the cam being small? (for the head flow)

Tom, they did cross at 5252, it's just that the sheet doesn't show 5252, but instead it shows 5261[on the 4'th sheet down], and it shows 520.2tq, and 519.3 HP.
Will, what he means is torque and HP are always equal at 5252 RPM. After all, the formula for figuring HP is torque x RPM divided by 5252 = HP. So, torque and HP will always cross, or be the same, in other words, at 5252 RPM.

Spring pressure over the nose is 369 iirc. I would have liked it a bit higher.

Good numbers and a nice wide rpm spread between peak torque and peak power.

The governor on my th400 is set to shift at 5200- any reason to move it considering dyno results?

Yeah the cam is small for the size of the engine so that's one consideration. I think he also mentioned they installed this cam at 107 so that may be another reason it looks like it quit early. But the torque curve is nice, perfect for a fun street car with no rear gear.

Me personally, I wouldn't. looking at that really nice torque curve I'd leave your governor alone. It's more street car anyway. If for some reason you hit the track and want to experiment, you could always shift manually a little higher and see if it helps your ET. But looking at the torque curve I think you'll see very little difference moving your shift points higher which in my eyes doesn't make fooling with the governor worth while. That'll be a fun engine.

Another piece of info on the shift points. My bird also has a very flat torque curve on a very stock build. My trans governor shifts around 5300 or so (if the factory tach is correct) I've raced the car extensively and I've shifted it all over the place, as high as 5700. I gained nothing in ET or MPH. Leaving it in drive works just as well and easier on the motor. So I raced then on with the shifter in drive. |
