The only car I ever junked was a '79 Dodge pick up. I felt bad even though it was totally trashed. I can't even imagine junking a GTO or a Chevelle

My regret is a '76 Trans am 4 speed. Had a rebuilt 1973 Formula 400ci motor in it and super t-10 trans. God it hurts to even think about it.

Probably the 69 RAIV Judge 4speed carousel red black interior and hideaways . Had some rust but thinking back it was not that bad . What a mistake .
Also several 70 ta's ra III cars and a few 74 super dutys .Those were the days when you could pick up a rusted out 74 sd car for a couple thousand pull the motor and after selling the rest of the parts have a sd for free sitting in the garage . |

70 challenger 440 six pac . pretty much rust free .500.00 bucks for it . It had a 318-2 in it when I got it . A couple of people were interested in parts so I decided to part it out . My 71 needed a trunk floor and nobody made them back then. I put a torch to it and by the end of the day it was in small parts. sold the se back window that day for 350.00 so I felt pretty good. sold the front fenders the next week 400.00. Well I didn't think it was too weird that it had ralley gauges but I decided to keep them for myself. So a friend stops by about a month later (mopar guy) . I show him whats left of the carcass standing on the side of the barn and low and behold he starts freaking out about some skid plate welded to the K frame . What I say? He says only 440-6 or hemi cars got them . I say its got an 8 3/4 not a dana. He says autos don't get danas. WHERE IS THE DASH????? I say its in the barn. We go in the barn and he says its got a V on the vin and that it is a 440-6 pack car . This is probably the only time a 70 440-6 challenger R/T SE was parted out for a 71 Challenger R/T 440-6 . Boy I wish I talked to Bill before I did that. I tried to save face by saying it was ugly brown metallic any way.He didn't buy it, but he did buy the rear end .

Lucerne blue 71 T/A 4-spd.
I parted it around 1984. The previous owner had let it get sideways and hit a mailbox. It kinked up the quarter just enough to let water get into the trunk and rust the floor and right side quarter. It wasn't hit hard, but just hard enough to keep the trunk from sealing. He continued to drive it for another 3 - 4 years after the accident, then parked it after spinning a rod bearing. He pulled the engine to rebuild it, put it on an engine stand, and never went any farther. I bought it with the motor apart. The front clip was beautiful, but the interior was a little ratty. It smelled of weed as well. It had all of the hard to find parts, such as the shaker, correct wheels, correct carb and manifolds, correct 4-spd, and 3.42s. It was a loaded car, even had the rear seat console (which was pretty well destroyed). Mike |

this is not my error but someone elses. I got a call one day from a man who wanted to know if I still bought old Pontiacs. I said I am always looking for more. I had purchased from this guys wife, when she was married to another guy. I made an date with them to look and see the cars. (4 or 5 of them) most of them were good parts cars only. I got there and was looking around. Picked out 4 when they said they were having the rest crushed. I was sick to my stomache. Her husband had killed himself and she was getting rid of every thing. Mustangs old chrysler Iron and some really old stuff too. I loaded up one and took it home planning to make several trips. I went back the following weekend and Every thing was gone! I you could tell they had crushed all but the ones that were sold. My cars were the only 2 left in the field. Then I was really sick!

I regret parting out a 67 GP, was the 428 equipped car with hidden headlights, 8 lug aluminum wheels, wood steering wheel, had just about every option you could get in a 67 GP, the car was in great shape. I just wanted the 428 for my gto so I took it out then gave the car to a friend who later sold it to someone who wanted to restore it. Dont know what happen to it after that.

69 Judge RAIII 3speed bench seat PS NonPower drums. Really stripped it though. The original engine was long gone along with it's exhaust manifolds, but I took the Ram Air system less missing flappers including underdash bracket, Air Foil, rear axle, interior less the bench, side glass, flat black grill and the glovebox door. In other words everything that made it a Judge or that I may eventually need for my other 69. Also took careful measurements of the stripe and decal placement.
With that combination of options or rather lack thereof I imagine it was rather rare. Only Judge I've ever heard of with a bench seat and Dearborn 3speed. |

Back in 1972 I acquired a rust free western 1966 Oldsmobile 442, maroon with a black interior. Car was hit in the right rear quarter panel and passenger door which would be an easy fix today but was enough to consider it a total when it was six years old. I hooked a chain across the roof and using a tractor turned the car upside down to remove the 4 speed Muncie transmission. Crusher took the rest. Ouch!

How the build sheet saved this one.....
I've got a 1965 parisienne Convertible. One of 43 built in the Oshawa (Canada) factory in Right Hand Drive for export.
So, it has a fibreglass dash as used in all RHD Pontaics & Chevs sourced out of Canada from 1965 thru 1968. I hate that dash. One day I find here a 1965 Bonneville 4DRHT. Originally imported new in 1965 and converted to RHD over here using the original dah which is beautifully crafted so you would never know it was originally a LHD car. This Bonneville is junk. It had been totally stripped years earlier, all paint removed and the owner lost interest. Just left it in a shed that had no back wall. No motor or trans but the dash was there and I want it for my Parisienne. So I buy the Bonneville and drag it home. A dog had been using it for his kennel. It stunk. So, first hot day, I think I'll pull it out of the garage, hose it all out, pull out the seats (which were still fitted in the car), scrub the seats clean and sell them. The front seat was a power bench seat. It will fit any Pontaic or Chev over here.... Scrub down the front seat. Comes up beautifully. Pull out the rear seat, hit it with the hose and start scrubbing. Turn it over and there's the BUILD SHEET!!! I take a look at it and see the engine code is YK!!!! A 421HO Tri-power auto car. And a LOAD of other options. I think the only option NOT fitted was A/C and for good reason as in a conversion the steering column goes right through the evaporator. So I ordered a PHS search on it. Sure enough it was built showing an "X" on the body plate indicating it was built as an export car. All options shown were included in what I got with the car except the motor. I did get the trans. I can't part this car..... It's got to be rare!!! But no motor???? What to do?????? Only two months later, I see an advertisement for a "Pontiac Big Block Engine". To cut to the chase, I bought it and guess the engine code....... YEP, true as I type this a "YK" engine. No, it's NOT the original engine out of my car but as good as. So, that big girl still sits today with a 421 engine resting in place. It's been like that for 12 years now and won't be toucjhed till I retire. It's safe, It's dry and NO, it's NOT FOR SALE. Ian

^ Cool story.
I think it would be neat to have a RHD old Pontiac over here in the States.

I don't regret parting any of the ones I have parted! They all richly deserved parting.
Probably the rarest and most valuable was a Porsche 356. These things were noted for rust. It had been sitting unattended in a field for several years. Fortunately, the windows were broken out, so did not have to open the door to tie down the steering. After i got it home, I opened the drivers side door at which point the roof collapsed and the car buckled in half! The only salvage was the drivetrain. Everything else had been eaten by the rust bugs. One could stick one's finger through the body at any location! Missouri winter salt and cinders are tough on car bodies; not to mention water pollution! Jon.
