Well I missed this one from you cliff till just now. Ive calculated the compression ratio is 9.6 . It is a 421 but after inspection it is .60 over, dished pistons and seems to have a 455 crank. So now 461. Kre d ports are opened to 290 cfm. I was surprised to find the 916 cam in the car and had already bought the 243. Based on my finding a stroker motor and pretty good cam already I was second guessing the 243 say compared to a 60919. I’d be thrilled with 450 hp.

Not nearly enough cam for a 461 with 290cfm KRE heads on it......

Is 5.192" a from the factory number ? Block has been line bored so the factory number is going to change.
Its my understanding that is why we have .004, .005, .008 and .010 shorter timing chains unless I am missing something.
I ordered a couple of .008 under timing chains in addition to the .005 under Rollermaster I have on the way.

Measure the overall distance from the top of the cam gear to the bottom of the crank gear. Then measure the diameter of the cam gear, and the crank gear. Add the two together, divide by 2 and subtract that number from the first overall measurement. That is your center to center distance. Compare that number to the factory dimension spec. Your calculation will tell you whether you need a standard timing set, or how much shorter. Without guessing.

Thanks, I will try that out.
What I have found out so far is the chains you get be it std or shorter is they vary and you actually have to test fit.
Had a std Cloyes that was tighter than their .005 short chain.
Spending the 450$ on a Milodon gear drive sounds better all the time.

I too have a mildon drive. I am assuming you are setting up your gear lash before bolting down the idler?

NOTE on gear drive. In using a the Milidon unit I found it quite helpful (and almost imposible without) to number A cam hub bolt hole then all 7 of the gear bolt holes to simplify dialing in a cam. IIRC each bolt hole gives you about 1.5* change?? (it's been 21 yrs...i forget)

thanks for input. I do want this to have street manners, but have a little lope and pull hard of course. And I don't want to go backwards from where I am today with the 60916/77 heads. The next two cams I see on the list are the 60919 and the 60244. I know the former gets all the attention, the latter is a notch up 239/241 and 500/500 on 112 but it says it likes 11 to1. which i wont be anywhere near that. maybe with a thinner head gasket i can get to 10 to 1, but that's about it.

Not sure I am going to like the sewing machine with rhoads lifters as I believe that goes glove in hand with the 60919?
