NO67GTO- If you drive I-90 through NYS, give me a shout before you get to central NY. If I decide to get to Norwalk next year, I may want to "convoy" out there with you.
I agree with others- leaving the track in the evening is missing half of the "Norwalk experience".

Hi everyone,
My dad and I are looking to make the trek out from Connecticut this summer. We'll be taking the daily driver so no need for trailer parking/etc. We're mostly looking to attend the swap meet and check out some beautiful cars. We're planning on staying one full day (two nights) as it is a 9 hour drive from CT. Is there a day that most of the events take place on? Does anyone have any area hotel recommendations? Any information for first timers that we should know? Thanks

Motels in Norwalk are expensive and get booked up due to proximity to Cedar Point. Since you're coming from CT, you might consider getting a room somewhere between Norwalk and Cleveland. You could save a lot of hassle and $$ since you're not going back & forth for several days. Eric

Frank, there are quite a few of us that head out from CT.
I usually head out 1st thing on Thursday morning and roll into Norwalk around 4. I stay until I get eliminated from racing on Sunday- though sometimes I'm doing too good and leave while I'm still winning so I don't get home at 3am. I guess if you're only going to be there for one day, Saturday would be it. If you and your dad are up for it, I'd consider camping at the track. Saves you a bunch of $$$ and you don't miss out on the late night shenanigans that always seem to be going on. They have a semi-wooded campground area for people that want set up tents. I slept over there many years ago. I camp in the pits these days.

Thanks for the information!
It looks like we'll stay at the Best Western as well. There seem to be quite a few hotels around there that aren't fit for human habitation...I hope this isn't one of them! If I had a camper I probably would camp just to save the money, but since this is our first time at an event like this, we've never needed one before. We'll get there Friday afternoon and leave Sunday morning. Sounds like it is going to be a blast. I wish I had a trailer and truck to bring my Pontiac, but that won't be for quite a while . I'll keep checking back for other tidbits that people leave. You never know what will be important. Thanks again!

My brother and I have been coming to this event since 2007. We also used to stay at a nearby hotel. Never Again!
We have just as much fun staying at the track after the racing and normal activities are over as I do actually racing. I wouldn't miss the amazing comradery and stories you get at the track in the evenings. PRICELESS!! Just my 2 cents. -joe

What are all these shenanigans that go on after the racing I keep hearing about????? Must be those damn Canadians.
Seriously folks, save your money, stay at the track. Pitch a tent in the camping area, sleep in your car, pass out in or on someone's trailer. At least you don't have to worry about getting eatin up by fleas, bedbugs, silverfish, roaches and the pungent smell of bleach and other disinfectants at the local motels. The best part of the weekend is the people. The track has nicer facilities (showers and crappers) than any state/national park plus they have a diverse selection of concessions and food choices. You will find the track to be one of the nicest track you'll ever attend, it's a notch on top of a top notch facility and the hospitality from everyone there is scond to none.

Mmmm Donuts seems like an awful long time away though. With two feet of snow and zero outside hard to think its right around the corner.

The quality and selection of the donuts gets better and better every year! And don't forget the OJ if you don't like coffee and then the free cookies and lemonade throughout the day!

Sorry about your luck! At least we don't lick them all like the Canadians do then put them back in the boxes.
