1969 gto hiports hit wiper motor
Anyone here successfully run wipers with kauffman highports on a 69 gto? Not planning on needing them but want to get it inspected for the street so I need wipers. I Imagine if I clock the wiper motor so it clears my head the wipers won't alighn properly.

Don’t you know your not allowed to run full on race heads on a street car?
Lol!!! Anyway a buddy of mine had the same issue on a 69 A body with aftermarket RAV heads and tall covers to clear a stud girdle. He got a different wiper motor if I recall right. I will find out from him later for you if no one else has given you a answer by then.

curious why the high ports for a street car ... were you concerned about moving the pushrod over to run a wide port edelbrock head instead?

When I was collecting parts to build this motor I was swayed in the highport direction. I really don't know about its street manners at this point as I haven't driven it yet but I'm not concerned about it to much. I have had some rowdy strip cars that I don't mind driving a limited amount on the street.

Well I may have a fix, I clocked the wiper motor up a touch and drilled new holes in the firewall to mount it, I will have to modify the actuator arm so they clock properly I guess. I would be interested in finding out if another style wiper motor would work though

No doubt! Hopefully I got it fixed. I have about 1/2 inch clearance now, I'm sure I will need to modify my wiper actuator arm so the wipers work correctly.

Maybe a custom "dent" fabricated in the back of the valve cover.

There is always the Rain Gear hidden wiper motor kit for like $600+ on the market that may work....

Ok I'm crazy. Do your wipers need to be operated by the motor for inspection? Or just operational? My point remove the motor for clearance, wipers still operate by the law. Then the interpretation of the law. Though it seems you solved your issue. I've ran my old 65 A body with wiper motor that quit in a storm not fun. Didnt have rainx to help.

I made a custom mount and found a late model wiper motor that was a closer profile on my 67 Firebird. I used the wiper motor for a 2010 Cobalt and adapted it. The only down side is that it's 1 speed and it has no auto stop. Meaning I turn them off when they at at the bottom. Not hard to do, and I don't normally drive in the rain anyway.

My High Ports do not interfere with the wiper motor still on the car. Even the big stock brake booster is still there.
But If I had to run a 1" valve cover spacer with a stud girdle the mini brake booster I bought would have to go on. But the wiper motor on my 69 GTO is not even close to the valve cover. |

Just curious what did you end up doing for the water cross over not meeting up with the timing cover…. another issue with the high ports on a street engine. Did you plug it off, or did you end up buying Kauffman extended water cross over so it match's up with timing cover.
Asking because a friend plug his off and said he had serious issues with front cylinders that was what his machine shop diagnosed. He ended up selling the heads and went to E-heads and actually made about 40 more hp. Its a street car, so might not be a problem on a race car, that only sees 1/4 mile runs

I just bought some cheap shorter fabricated valve covers on Amazon and welded # 12 bungs to the for a V pump or crankcase E Vac system. |

Most all fabricated covers that I have seen do not have a flange lip for mounting which use short bolts like a factory one.
This in effect makes the covers both wider and longer and brings the valve cover at least 1/4" closer to the firewall.. I have seen folks having to send out there Aluminum plate valve covers to be modified with a angle back there to clear the wiper motor.
