Just took a look at my original '69 TA and it has three bolts (4th week of October '69 build).

So I just received my aftermarket Reverse Lockout Rod from Ames. Part number FR684T. For my 69 4-Speed Bird. Could not get it to fit. Each side fits by itself in it's prospective holes, but once one side is in, the other side would not fit. And I think I see why. See pics. The first pic is the side that goes in the arm on the tranny. It's 90 degrees to the rod. Second pic is the side that goes in the swivel arm. It is more like a 45 degree bend. It seems like if they we're both 90's it would fit. Could some who has a original one or a pic of an aftermarket one that fits please let me know if this looks right before I call Ames for a refund or replacement?
Thanks |

Thank you very much.
Mine looks very similar to that if not the same, but for some reason I cannot get mine in place. it is as if one of the bends are wrong. |

I had same problem with the AMES replacement lockout rod in that barely fit but caused the linkage to bind. I found an original rod in my parts bin. The Ames rod is off several degrees from fitting properly. Not sure you can bend it to fit unless you heat it up with a torch.

They requested I send them a bunch of pictures of the rod with different angles, which I did. Just waiting to hear back from them. Just hope they are not comparing mine with other ones they have in stock, because they all could be wrong at this point. |

No, I never returned the part as I could use it later after I tweek it if need be. Shipping is half the cost of the part now a days anyway! I did compare them side by side, never took a pic, but saw the Ames was off several degrees. Not as bad that it would not install, but my linkage may be worn more that yours.

69 Fb reverse lock out
The reverse lockout rod from Ames for the 69 Firebird is wrong but if you work it with vice and go up and down underneath the car about 12 times you should be able to get it to work we did with ours

So you're saying it's just like every other aftermarket part?
