For the more street minded folk, I've always liked this combination.
Stock block 455 on pump gas. Makes good power and torque numbers, and the peak isn't crazy rpm either. https://youtu.be/y2rpyzu2vSM Here are the dyno numbers https://youtu.be/sp-RfWvmDZA |

tomato tomoto......meh That's like saying the IA2 and MR1 blocks aren't Pontiac anymore. I don't really care about the semantics. That was a max effort build. Still impressive what Tony was able to do with it.

Isn't the discussion here about the pushrod being in the port and if it effects things? Either way that engine has no pushrod running through middle of port

As mentioned above as far as errors go. Magazines have errors, SAE Papers DO NOT HAVE ERRORS.
Below is a cutaway picture of the 427 Le Mans engine that won that race in 1966. You can clearly see that the pushrod tube is not in the port on those heads. Therefore NOT a Tunnel Port Engine. The Tunnel Port Engines were used in Drag Racing for sure but not in the Le Mans, Daytona, and other endurance races. A small difference but still not correct. Tom V. DCI's RAM AIR V Tunnel Port heads do have a special transition vs the simple tube and fin in the port.

Yeah, this deal has been around a long time, and we still talk about it I'm not the one that revived a 4 year old thread.

all the time. there's nothing wrong with a revival. if the revived thread is so bad, why did you post in the first place ? this entire hobby, is about revival...and nostalgia. so it's only fitting. why are we reviving Pontiacs, when they went out of business in 2010 ? the cars are older than this thread, no ? so cars can be revived, but not threads? that's called progress. books are revised too, as technology, politics, society changes. practice what you preach, dude. you're talking out of both sides of your mouth here. if we only did the latest greatest thing, there would be no PY forum, at all. the piston engine isn't exactly cutting edge technology anymore. most commercial aircraft stopped using it, around 1950-1960. do did tanks- they use turbines. what's a 747 Boeing have on it ? or an Abrams tank ? gee I'm not the one who revived that old P51 Mustang. we love it, but we have to admit...we're dealing with antiques here now. not walk around starry eyed, living in the past... we're like the old Flatheads Forever crowd...just a later generation. my gut tells me, our time is short. the writing is on the wall. watch what happens after the election, with the price of gas. no cheap gas, no hobby. I could talk about this stuff all day long. Technology peaked for me about 1975 so anything old is okay in my book. Your talking to a guy that daily drives 50 year old classics with carbs and points |

that was a mighty quick reply, for an old revived thread...
I'm not the one that replied to it so fast... the future of this hobby, will be putting electric motors in vintage GTO's and Firebirds. to drive them legally. because they're trying like hell to outlaw the gasoline engine. and these are very powerful people doing this. not that I want it...but they own all the banks and oil companies. |

It's 4am, morning coffee time. You just happened to pop up and it was convenient for me. Nothing more.
I don't care much about the electric stuff. I'll likely be dead and gone before that happens, but if it does, I'll resort back to riding horses before I jump on that bandwagon. |

I hate to tell ya but the latest and greatest technology is not always that great. I hear people all the time about how something has been redone or improved but the general consensus is it was better before. As time goes on there are alot of things that have not gotten better..They try to reinvent but usually screw it up.

Don't you like the fact that you can get on a commercial jet and travel from the East Coast to San Jose, California in less than one day vs being on a Wagon Train that took 4 months to get to the same destination?
That is newer technology vs the old Prop Job stuff or the wagon train. For most people they just want to get there quickly and in comfort. Could care less if it is a 325 HP GTO vs a 348 HP GTO. But if you like Wagon Trains or old Pontiacs go for it. But don't complain when you are getting someplace in days vs hours. Electric Vehicles have a place in the world, like P-51 Mustangs or GTOs/F-Birds. But Wagon Trains are cool, except when you are picking up the Horse Chit to use to have a fire on the tree-less plains. (Or later the bathroom vs the outhouse). 99.9999 % of the people would say get rid of the Outhouse. Same deal for the stinky, noisy, unsafe, 64 GTO with seats that did not lock, brakes that barely worked, steering that was so slow you thought you were driving a Lake Freighter, nothing to keep flying grandmothers from smashing your head in the dash. Simple is not necessarily SAFE. But that is off topic, does everyone need Don's heads???????? Most would have them for Bragging rights as a decent boosted modern engine would kick their aze. Tom V.

I'm not much for being in a hurry. Last 4 trips 1800 miles across country I drove back and forth. I'm okay with that. Quick and comfort are not my biggest concerns.

Of course there's been advances in technology,,you'd have to be numb not to admit that. It's just that not everything old is outdated or not as good as today's stuff. Not mechanical but look at social media,,,it's done as much harm as good.

I rarely watch programs on the TV or cable as most is propaganda or bad information. The days of Walter Chronkite and Chet Huntley and David Brinkley and accurate news is long past. The old stuff from Pontiac, Cadillac, etc was to give people different levels of capability. Cadillacs did a fine job of pulling Airstream Trailers. The only thing close years later was Chevy Suburbans. The Motor Homes ran those offerings basically out of business. But back to the topic. Tom V.
