Need to buy new trim rings for my Rallye II wheels. Looking for suggestions.
So I blasted and painted up all 5 of the Rallye II wheels I am going to use on my '69 Convertible. 3 of them are later model factory 15X7 wheels and the other 2 are new Wheel Vintiques 15X8 that I will use on the rear of the car. I do like polished vs brushed and also stepped/squared design vs rounded.
I'm sure I want 2 1/2" on the front but not sure if I should go with the wider (3") trim rings on the 15X8 rear wheels or whether I should just get a set of four 2 1/2".

I used brushed/rounded Rings in the late 80s-90s due to avail and condition. Popping off was rare. Looks made the GTO look heavy. Scratched the crap out of the rims.
80s: I used the Polished/Sharp Rings, but getting 4-of-the-same, and ding-free was too tough. Popping off was frequent. Looks made the GTO sharp. 90s-now: no trim rings for the reliability and supposed Judge relation, rim condition, and performance readiness Only source i know is repops. Oh! there are 3 excellent sharp ones on a 73 LeMans up the street (rusted lawn art). Owner isnt selling the car but just maybei ask about the 3 the trim rings. |

I'm Cheap
Don't know if these will help for looks, Roger. Just something to show you some "el cheapo" repros. They're 14" x 2" deep. Definitely not the original look, but works for me for a driver restoration.

I wonder if the Corvette Rally Wheel trim rings will work for you? This is just an example.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/20383977496...xoC7k8QAvD_BwE From Paragon Corvette: 2367 1968-82 .......................... $142.00 Rally wheel trim ring, w/ correct clip. Has to be an (AZ)-69 up to 8 wheel. Has to be an (AG)-68 only 7 wheel. Wheel needs to be 16 3/8 O.D. rim diameter. Imported. From Eklers Corvette https://www.ecklerscorvette.com/1968...-866529-1.html

I don't know if they would fit or not. I guess I'm more apt to buy from a vendor that claims they will fit rallye II wheels just to be safe.

Thanks Ogre. Those look really good but I do think that extra 1/2" in depth would make them look even better.

2nd Rally II looks deeper than the rest. Dry-fit to make sure the ring seats.

OGRE,
Where did you purchase the trim rings from? I had lost one on the expressway a few years back. The PO had just purchased them but never got back to me to let me know where the shop that had purchased them for him. The three that I have left are the type with the clips that clip to the edge of the rim. What type of clips are on your trim rings? How are they holding up? I think the edge clips don't clip to well and that's probably why the one flew off

How about Wheel Vintiques? Ames has some, too. The 8" rims I have are an inch fatter on the front side so I would think there would be a big gap using 7" rings.

I hadn't measured mine until now and my 8" wheels are the same as yours. That 1" difference is all on the front side and didn't realize that. So if I got as set of 4 trim rings that are 2 1/2" wide, the gap on the 7" wheels is going to be about 1/4" while the gap on the 8" wheels about 1 1/4". I did look at Ames and they have 15" stepped that are 2 1/4" wide. Those would leave about a 1/2" gap on the 7" wheels. If I could find 3" wide with the same stepped design that would work as they would have about 3/4" of gap on the 8" wheels. But Ames doesn't carry a 3" wide stepped design, only curved. I looked at Wheel Vintiques too. They don't state whether they fit Rallye II but they do have a 2 1/2" stepped design. The only 3" stepped design the have fits Chrysler. Coker shows they might have what I need in the Specialty Wheel brand. I called them and the guy said their 2 1/2" and 3" in what they call square design will both fit on Pontiac Rallye II wheels but they have no stock in either size. He said he shows about 2 weeks out on the 2 !/2" wide but no ship date at all on the 3".

Sorry it took so long to respond. Got off onto other projects. Anyway, the ones I have on my "still-under-restoration" vert are not anywhere near the design of original trim rings. They do not have a stepped lip, but are totally round. So if you have the original stepped lip (aka ribbed) these would look terribly out of place. As I said before, since I am not doing a concourse job (like Roger), I go cheap where I can. Best I can tell (it was almost a year ago), I only went to Amazon, and looked for GM A-body trim rings, and chose the cheapest (with some semblance of not trashy looks) and bought them. I think they were from a company named "OXGARD." HTH, and apologies for my slowness, Ogre

Orge,
No worries here. Understandable we all get busy. And thanks for coming back to reply. I am with you my car is a driver also. It has its flaws here and there. I knew it when I purchased it in 2019. I found these but may be to deep for my rims. I have 14" Rally's but not sure on the depth of them thou. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015G8DCN2...3G3HC60YYF8FXQ
