What's your rim width and backspacing on the rear now?

Factory 2nd gen Rally IIs, 15x7. I think they are 4.25BS. On the left side I have something like an inch between the lip of the rim and the lower shock mount. On the right it looks a little closer, but basically the same. After staring at it for a while I don't think tire makes a diffence, on a 15 what is going to hit is the rim inside lip. Im pretty confident that the 8" wide rim with the 275/50R15 will be okay.
In theory Im buying a 1/4" with the backspace change and then the wider rim will trade a half inch back closer. For a net change of 1/4 closer to that shock mount, and 3/4 further to the outside. I have brand new multileafs so I don't think rubbing will be a problem on the outside. Im worried about them sticking out, because I hate that 70s street rod look. But by my measurements they should still be contained in the fender or maybe flush at the section width of the tire. The only one that is goofy is the right front, that is the one that rubs and seems further into the fender than the left front. I bought 5 of those Rally IIs when I bought them. So Im kinda wondering if one was a different BS and I never measured. I know they vary some.

This one's an 18/15 combo. It's not bad, but I think it'd look better if it were 17/15.

Yeah thats probably like a 35 or 40 front tire. A little too extreme of a difference. With my setup Im ultimately more worried about not liking Race Stars particular brand of 17x7 with the spokes near the outside.

Got em in. I like em. Still wish the 17x7 was a little more deep dished. So now I have subframe connectors and drag radials in time for all the tracks to be closed.
Both tires are slightly shorter than my old 15s and it shows. The front especially needs a lowering spring now to look right.

What about a taller tire in the rear to fill the wheelwell more; would equalize the size difference a little. I know, its all personal preference.

Gearing is a limiting factor. I only have 3.08s to make the highway palatable. Going with too tall of a tire would hamper the highway gearing even more.
It’s more IMO about getting that front fender a little closer to the tire.

A 225/50R17 would match the rear heights, and close the gap slightly, but you might be a little close to the fender in terms of clearance it looks like? Hows the back, are they at least flush with the top of the fender ridge, or sticking past? What's it feel like when driving now, compared to the old combination?

Unfortunately as soon as I bolted them on snow hit the ground. They stay inside the fender well at the top but optically they still seem to stick out if you view from the front.
