That's not a bad showing. Anyone who has never done it may not realize how tough it is go a few rounds in an NHRA national event. I have several friends who run in Stock and Super Stock and even though their cars are .8 or better under, it's still tough to go rounds. That group of 5 of the top 16 qualifiers is still mind boggling for an obsolete, out of business brand that is never given any respect. Go Pontiac!

Movin East
The big NHRA show moves to Arizona this week.
The pre-entry list shows 6 Pontiac Stockers, including Rick Unterseh's 301 Turbo Bird, with a new paint job. https://www.nhraeventreg.com/ListEve...=PA1&cc=8&rn=2 Looks like 3 Pontiac SS cars entered, including Don Kennedey's GT/AA Sunfire. https://www.nhraeventreg.com/ListEve...=PA1&cc=7&rn=2 http://www.nhra.net/2016/images/NHRA...schedulePA.pdf Division 4 also has their 1st race of the season this week, down in Houston. Sometimes J.B. Clegg will bring out the old '74 H-O SD455 Bird. Last year he made a 9 sec pass with it. Hunter Pierdolla also made an appearance last year with his '74 Bird. http://sportsman.nhra.com/2016/Flyer/41.pdf Good luck to all Pontiac powered racers ! The 1st round of Stock qualifying is in the books. Randi Lyn Shipp topped the list of Pontiac powered cars. 5 Pontiacs made the top 20.

Wow ! Leo just moved up to #3 on the Stocker list, with a 1.141 under run of 10.259, in C/SA.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop Hope that don't get a hp factor increase from NHRA. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-26-2016 at 02:20 PM. |

Well, looks like Leo will go into elims as the highest qualified Pontiac, in both Stock and SS.

E-1
Hey, all the Pontiac Stockers survived round 1 !!!
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop But, in order to race on Sunday, they'll have to win 3 rounds today--not an easy task, given the level of competition. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 02-27-2016 at 12:08 PM. |

Yeah, the only good thing about that is that we know at least 1 Pontiac will make it to round 5.

I like having a chance for all three to be in the fifth round better.

Div 4 Race
Looks like we had 3 Pontiacs show up, in Houston. Adam Davis came over, from Alabama, to join with the '74 Birds of Hunter Pierdolla and J.B. Clegg. Hunter qualified #18, in an 80 car field, with a .991 under run of 11.159.
http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop J.B. qualified with a blast of 9.739, running SS/I, in the old H-O Racing Specialties Bird. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...UMMIT#indextop Both Pontiac Stockers survived round 1 of elims. Adam Davis cut a .009 light and ran 10.978 on a 10.97 dial. That package is hard to beat, at most races. But not many racers can maintain those kind of numbers enuff rounds to win a race. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 02-28-2016 at 10:17 AM. |

Correction
I just noticed that I posted the wrong RT for Adam Davis. He cut a .004, not the .009 that I posted. Sorry about that.
Looks like it'll be well after noon, Mountain Time, before the next round of Stock, in Arizona. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop |

Well, Randi Lyn & Leo move on to the next round. So, 2 Pontiacs are still alive.
But, unfortunately, we won't have an all Pontiac final, cause they have to run each other in the next round. http://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCSt...er=30#indextop Leo qualified a lot quicker. So he should have the advantage, in the heads-up C/SA semi-final. Last edited by ponyakr; 02-28-2016 at 04:29 PM. |
