1966 GTO kicking around the fuel injection idea looking for input.
I have a 1966 GTO original 389 64K original miles 4bbl 4 speed I am kicking around the EFI Idea for it. I am looking for input from others who have done it. I don't like to cut stuff up and drill holes where there were any. I like to be able to put it back to stock. I see there is a EFI tank available and there are so many different kits out there, lets just see what you all have to say about it.
Thanks ALL Jon |

First of all, Why do you want fuel injection? Don't get me wrong I like fuel injection. I was a fuel injection tech. But you will most likely never get back the cost of injection in fuel savings. If your car's fuel system is adjusted correctly driveability wont be greatly improved with the exception of cold driveability. Do you drive much in cold weather? If you are one of those people that have to have every new gadjet then go for it. Otherwise ask yourself if you really want it or are you just trying to impress people. If you don't now have it I would however install electric ignition. There you will see a big improvement. Good luck.

Jumping in to ask a couple of questions to learn something.
When we are talking fuel injection, are we talking about a fuel injected throttle body? I would think you would see better fuel consumption with this setup. |

I have the original carter on my car now I cant get it to run right. I played with the timing and adjustments I cant find the problem. It falls on its face and pings at times I am also a fuel injection guy I don't know much about carbs. I am getting sick of this not being able to drive my car I am not trying to impress anyone just be able to drive it. It also started to leak. Just plain old sick of it. I have over 60K invested in this car and it sits in the garage.

Have you considered sending your carb out to have it completely gone through and adjusted?
It's winter now so this would be a good time to send it out to have it back by spring time

If it's a quadrajet send it to Cliff R. He may do other carbs as well. I'm not sure of others but I'm positive there are more reputable carb gurus on this site. You may want to post in the street section to get more responses on a carb rebuilder.
IMO, I would send the carb out vs the fuel injection route. Just personal preference.

Fuel Injection
I had a PowerJection III unit on the car for a while but didn't like it very much. My engine has a bit of a cam in it and no matter what I did, I couldn't get the programming right. Always hard to start especially in cold climate. Went back to a nice tuned Holley 750 and never looked back.
