Portable bandsaw blades
I plan on buying a portable bandsaw and the TPI count varies from 14,18 and 24. While one would you recommend?

Ross,
The Lenox 14/18 vari-pitch is a middle of the road blade and works well for many tasks. It's always nice to have a fine tooth handy for the thin stuff. The general rule of thumb is to have a minimum of 3 teeth engaged in your material. Dave

Thanks for the reply. I just got back from Home Depot looking at their portable bandsaw blades. I didn't buy anything because all they carried in the store were Vermont American and as far as I'm concerned is Vermont American brand is the worst there is on the market. I forgot about clinics Lenox blades, they usually make top-notch cutting tools. I'll see if I can find some of those.

It also depends on what you are cutting. Usually more TPI is better for cutting steel, while a few less works better for wood.

I use the blades sold by Harbour Freight- made in U.S. by M.K.Morse (since 1968). 8% cobalt, 10/14 variable pitch, good quality.

X2 on the Morse blades. There are instances where a portable band saw is more convenient than the 7X12 band saw.

I wound up buying the Lenox 14-18 blade. Thanks for all the good responses. Glad to see that no one recommended the Vermont American.
