So are any of you jumping on them or are they still up for grabs. I'm interested if they will fit a 55 Pontiac with a 455. Alan

Yes, I called Terry yesterday and he is going to check fit for my application and then send them on their way, I hope That they fit my car. Terry was very interesting to talk to and I just wished he lived closer I would love to meet him and his wife in person , they are both drag racers to the bone!!

What's the big attraction to fenderwell headers?
Besides having the opportunity to butcher up a nice pair of inner fenderwells, I mean? |

In my case, the motor is not even going in a pontiac and the car it is going in never had inner fenders when I got it. But if you are the numbers matching, factory bone stock type of person, I could see how you wouldn't understand. However it all comes down to, "it's your car, do what you want with it". |

If you have a 59 Pontiac and you NEED headers then that's the best way to do it. The frame on the '59 Pontiacs are just way too low and no way around them unless you go under them or go through them. Under the frame puts your exhaust about 3" from the ground. You couldn't drive over a speed bump. Not to mention how hard it would be to snake 4 1 3/4" primary tubes around the starter, the steering box and the pit man arm and then around the frame. I'm not entirely sure that's even possible.
And I think they just look cool. I don't think it's worth doing just for looks though. And I didn't have to cut too much of my inner fenders. Who cares?

Exactly! Your car, your taste, your business. You know how you want to build your own car. There's no need for Armchair quarterbacks telling you how you should do it.

Not necessarily. Fenderwell headers many times are run open for track use. So no need to worry about mufflers and tailpipes. If you do hook them up, most would run them on the outsides of the frame with side pipes that exit in front of the rear wheels. I have no idea what Poison Heart's setup is, but I'm sure he's got it under control. My headers will be run open with no additional exhaust.

No, The headers don't have to go back under the frame. 59 Pontiacs have an X frame and the only place for the exhaust to run is on the outside of the frame. If you go OVER the frame then you don't have to go UNDER it.
I'm going to run exhaust but I'm not sure how far back yet. I'm going to put cut outs right after the headers though and then run glass packs and probably dump it before the axle.

For those not familiar with X type frame cars the full exhaust system is hung outside of the X under the floorboards. The original path kicks the front exhaust pipe outside of the frame rails just behind the lower A frames, which there isn't sufficient clearence to exit 4 header tubes and a collector. Hence the need for headers that come over the frame rails and then rearward to be transitioned into the exhaust. I have followed Poison hearts header build at another forum and he has done a good job for someone that has nearly no experience in header or exhaust fabrication. |

Thanks Sirrotica! My headers aren't perfect and neither are my welds and the left and right side are not symmetrical but they look ok. Maybe a few years down the road I'll build a better set. I kind of wish I ground down all the welds flat but at the time I thought the welds would look cool. Oh well

NP Bob, in case you've not noticed no left and right headers mirror each other due to different obstacles on either side of the frame and engine.

Yeah, that's true but I think if I tried hard enough I could have made them match. I'm satisfied with my final product though. I think for my first set they're not bad. The next set will be better

I think they look great Bob even with the welds showing. Since these sold I may try to make a set for my 55, 462, out of a set of BBC fender well headers for the tri5s. To answer Scott M. "cause they look good in the car, make it a little different than everyone else's and the car will never be a record breaker so I ask you why not?"
