Instrument panel

Removed the 70 instrument panel light bulbs that on the turn signal arrows and idiot lights. They twist counter clockwise to remove. However, on reinstalling them clockwise, they now won't come on. What happened? I have checked several times to make sure they're properly seated by a firm twist.
