Default Gen 3 or 4 Firebird to convert to Pontiac 400 with 3-speed auto.

For you guys who may have done this conversion before, which is 'easier' to do? the 3rd or 4th gen Firebird? I can find a decent car at a good price but is the cost and effort of putting traditional Pontiac power and drive line in the newer chassis just not worth it? I want to build a 10 sec car and I have the motor and many other needed parts on hand but 1st and 2nd gen cars are just too expensive.
