68-9 comfortweave custom trim revisited
Its been a while since this was discussed.
Firebirds only for this discussion please. As Ive noted in the past black non comfortweave never happened. Any other colors that got comfortweave exclusively? Ive had parchment, turquoise, ivy gold, all in the non knitweave insert material. Pretty sure I recorded the build dates but for now Im just going from old posts that it was around Oct,Nov that the well went dry on this. So if you have a custom trim option and factory covers that were non comfortweave inserts please list your build date and color. Bonus points for a bench seat,as All the bench seats Ive had did have the comfortweave material. There doesnt seem to be a correct knitweave material reproduced, only NOS.

Standard black interior was option code 208. I’ve seen plenty in my lifetime. Red and Leather were exclusive to the Custom interior upgrade option.
Anyone have a clear quality color copy of this attachment they can share?

Cammer's question applies only to 1968 models. Trim codes for 69 and 69 were not the same.

I may have misread the question; my apologies.
Still hoping someone can post a quality color copy of the attachment I posted.

Otherwise how do we know if a supply chain issue forced them to use non knitweave to make a set of 69 covers(which all parts but bucket seat bottoms were same between 68 and 69.)

apart from the leather option obviously not being comfort weave what makes you think there might have been factory exceptions?

There was also non knit weave (fake comfortweave) used in 1970 model Birds. I've owned both black & sandalwood original 70 Bird front & rear seats that used the faux material.

hope this wont take a left turn to include anything other than 68-9. 68 had leather 69 had leather neither were comfortweave.

Understand, Waaay too much MISUSE of the classic tech forums & at least one moderator could care less.
Just threw that fact out there, as I too believe there was a tight supply of real comfortweave material & it effected multiple years of original builds. Fwiw, the '68 400 Bird convert project I owned in late 90's had black custom buckets wlth comfortweave

I wasn’t aware that (in 70 anyway) there appears to have been custom (non leather of course) Fbird interiors built without the knitted vinyl (comfortweave).
Is there any factory documentation of this issue? You’d think there would be since the knit vinyl was a marketing justification of the added cost of the custom interior. Also if there was some kind of supplier issue it would also impact the standard 69 GP interior and well as the 70-72 LeMans and GTO?

North, right now Im focusing on 68-9 Birds.
Yes comfortweave was used on other models and years. Lets see if we can get closer to an answer as to why some colors and even models got slighted with the knitweave material. A start is to see if theres any production dates and colors other than Oct,Nov 1967 that DID NOT substitute plain vinyl for the comfortweave material.

My Dec '67 Bird has a custom parchment interior with non-comfortweave.

I’ve owned a bunch of 69 birds over the years but never had one with the custom interior so I always assumed they all had that knitted material.
I wonder how much other GM divisions or other car companies used this stuff? In other words was Pontiac on the leading edge in using this material which logically increases the chance of production teething pains.

You and I have been pretty involved in 68 and 69 birds for 5+ decades. I've never seen or heard of this issue of subbing Morrokide grain vinyl for breathable knitweave on 69s. Have you?

but all I ever remember seeing was black and the pattern was turned 90 degrees. Corvettes used it also.Im betting there wasnt a shortage here. It was the precursor to air conditioned seats. The wear of vinyl and breathability of cloth.
