Tires
Looking for recommendations for 225 70/14 tires. Best redlines? Best brand RWL’s? See a lot of bad press on BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s Still on the fence redlines? RWL’ s? 3/8 white stripes? Any suggestions or pics welcome. These are for 67 GTO triple black
Thanks |

Since you are not ruling out radials, I suggest taking a look at the Cooper Cobras.
I will be in the market for tires pretty soon and Coopers are what I am going to go with. They are RWL but they are designed to be able to turn them in and use the blackwall side if you want and that's what I intend to do with my '69.

A '67 GTO needs redlines, not white letters.
Diamondback redlines give you two options. https://dbtires.com/?post_type=produ...size=225-70r14 |

The tread pattern of the their tire photo doesn't match the Cooper or the BFG.

I put Cokers on my 66 many years ago. They have held up fine and ride really good. The only issue I have is when they get dirty the mold lines stand out. I have tried a few tire cleaners but some leave a greasy surface for dust and dirt to collect.

On a black car I'd do the redlines. That would be sharp.

My next set I am going to try some Vitour Galaxy tires, not sure if they sell those in the US. I do not like cooper cobra tires in the rain.

One is a BFG and the other is a Michelin, I believe.

Mickey Thompson Sportsman, very similar to BFGs

That’s what I have on my 64, 225/70-15. A little less expensive than the BFG also. But I don’t think they make them in a 14”

I think a triple black GTO would be beautiful with red line tires. That being said, I purchased a set of BFG Silvertown radial red lines from Coker Tire. These were for my 68 400 Firebird convertible . IMO, they were lousy tires. Out of round and very difficult to balance. They required an excessive amount of weight and were out of round enough to require being shaved to provide a smooth ride. Based on that experience, I would try Diamondback or some other supplier.

I purchase all that kind of stuff from Diamondback and highly recommend them. Not a huge fan of Coker but he does have some stuff I can't get elsewhere.

The Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/T and the Cooper Cobra Radial G/T are the same tire except for a small difference in the tread pattern. Cooper Tires also manufactured tires under several other brand names including Mickey Thompson. However last year Goodyear acquired the Mickey Thompson brand when it finalized its purchase of Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.

Thanks for all the feedback. Convinced to go with DB redlines. Diamondback III or SS? Any feedback on the SS?

Diamondback will put red lines on other brand tires. Give them a call. They're doing Cooper Cobras for me with the 3/8" redline.

I just created a post about the Coker radial redline tires asking if anyone has installed them and how they ride. I am now so used to driving nice modern vehicles with radial tires, I am done with the massive drop off in ride quality when I jump in my 66 GTO. I prefer pure stock, so I want the vintage look. I will probably pull the trigger today.
Maybe something for you to consider. Best of both worlds.
